“Anytime you ban a book, you are on the wrong side of history, and sooner or later it will catch up with you,” said Ann Patchett, award-winning author of numerous novels, including her brand-new book, “Whistler.” Patchett’s favorite children’s book, the 1958 “The Rabbit’s Wedding” was banned for fear it encouraged interracial marriage. “People who ban books don’t read books,” says Patchett.
