Putting your personal opinions to the side for a minute, I think it’s quite clear that he hadn’t forgiven himself at this point in his life. His own mother was a victim of DV and to now be seen in the light of an abuser definitely bothered him. He was only 20 years old at this point still struggling to adapt to the rapid change in public perception. He deserved all the backlash for his actions and he definitely could have handled this interview better but he was not mature enough to understand that most people will not be able to “get over it” that quick some may never. If you watch later interviews he is more mature and open when discussing his DV incident.

I've always been team CB but dang. This ain't the move right here. I was much younger when this aired. Looking back at it, I get why people are slow to forgive him even now. He made an album "forgiving all my enemies" as if he was the victim in the domestic violence situation with Rihanna, as if everyone hated him unjustifiably. Taking full responsibility would have been a better way to handle things. Even tho Robin Roberts was bringing it up when he clearly wasn't prepared to answer those questions, he could have humbly said how sorry he was and that he's not that person anymore. Instead he went straight to the angry button. I guess some people get angry easily especially when someone embarrasses them. But even if I gave CB a pass for this interview, in a later one, he says that "old girl", (Rihanna) would have no one else to go to that was better than him. Then there's the more recent documentary where, again, he plays the victim as he tells his side of the story. He makes it seem like he hit her and then stopped himself out of shock. No Chris. You beat the daylights out of her. He also seemed to be making the effort to place some of the blame on Rihanna by giving details of how she hit him and spit blood in his face. The whole thing is still pretty disturbing. To know that she even went back to him after all this shows how broken he really left her and that he likely made her feel like he was the best she could ever have. Welp. That didn't age well. Because in 2023, she seems happier than ever with ASAP. She's a mom. Her business ventures are crazy successful. SHE'S A BILLIONAIRE. And the biggest flex in this situation is that she has forgiven him. Whew! That's major growth.
