Tell this argument to the Ukrainian people who were completely unarmed as the government demanded that it would protect the people. How did that work out???
The horrific torture and murder of innocent people quickly made for the need of real estate to create more cemeteries.

Why no discussion about the other half of the amendment that discusses a well regulated militia?

I’m really impressed with Jen Psaki. What a great host. She elicits great responses from her guest, keeps it focused, and has great presentation. Biden was lucky to have her.

Anyone remember The Firm, a Tom Cruise movie? For me, it was a heart stopping suspenseful movie about supreme court manipulation, it’s suggested murder was not going to far if a corporation wants to capture Supreme Court justices.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has shown murder is not necessary with his research on the Federalist Society and the aftermath of the Roberts Supreme Court ruling defining money as free speech in Citizens United versus FEC.
It turned our democracy into a plutocracy with 2 killing cuts.
First, the ruling allowed bribes to be considered free speech if they were transparent. The last cut made secret “contributions” to PACs legal.
Now, Dark Money owns Capitol Hill in DC and every state. Clarence Thomas has proven Supreme Court Justices can also be owned or “captured” as Whitehouse describes the Roberts SCOTUS.

Libs are living in fantasy land. The courts are about to lay waste to all the gun control that the blue states have been vomiting up.

Under the second amendment, people should be able to own weapons that were available at the time that the constitution was signed. Everything else is up for discussion and legislation.

Finally some real news. Thank you Jen Psaki for raising the bar from Trump all the time or every time DeSantis opens his mouth becoming headlines. We are ready for the substance you bring to reporting. Please more of this content and much less of what Kim Kardashian thinks about changes in Trump. The second amendment is so very poorly understood and quoted in only self functioning ways by notorious characters. Americans are so ignorant to this or totally brainwashed by special interests. Thank you again!

Just think how things would have turned out differently if we would have had the common sense to reinterpret the 2nd amendment in light of modern weapons of war, automatic weapons, high capacity magazines, etc. At the time the 'right to bear arms' was written, the most lethal weapons were single shot rifles and pistols that took a couple minutes to reload. That is really all anyone needs for hunting and/or personal defense. The need for militias was superseded decades ago by our standing army and national guards who are 'well regulated' as opposed to the civilian clown militias we see today.

  12. @suomynona4607

    December 18, 2023 at 9:00 am

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

That's the entirety of the 2nd Amendment. No, I can have as many guns as I want. No, I can have any gun I want. No, I can carry them everywhere with me like they are an emotional support animal. No, I must have them to defend against the government. While absurd definitions of "well regulated" have been applied, they don't cause the word "militia" that all the other words rely on to disappear. No amount of semantic gymnastics will make a militia from an angry momma's basement dwelling incel Call of Duty cosplayer with mental problems and chip on their shoulder. If the founding fathers meant something other than the obvious reading of the text, there was no shortage of parchment or ink to allow them to do that. A future, less corrupt, less extreme court should interpret it as its written. After all, thanks to the overturn of Roe, super precedence is no longer a thing.

I'm not surprised that's all you got from my history lesson. Anarchists always use the c-word when they have no facts to support their argument. As a former AF officer, I do not fear our democracy. I also do not fear equality for All Americans, black and white alike. Equality does not constitute tyranny. Equality constitutes Democracy! And you don't need a gun to share democracy, just compassion and common sense. But that may be asking too much of you. End of conversation. Have a nice day. 😎

    December 18, 2023 at 9:00 am

Our founding fathers would have loved our modern defenses

  17. @EdwardBrowne-sm9li

    December 18, 2023 at 9:00 am

You obviously don't understand what the term National Guard means. That is the "civilian militia"! And, in case your knowledge of history is lacking, keep in mind that the government, at the time of the writing of our Constitution, did not supply the "civilian militia", also known today as the National Guard, with weapons with which to fight. The government did not have the budget that our armed forces enjoy today, so it allowed private citizens to keep weapons, in cases of national defense, not for the purpose of insurrection. Insurrection is covered in detail in other sections of our Constitution.

Alien 👽 invasion will begin in 31 October 2023. Be Ready

  19. @EdwardBrowne-sm9li

    December 18, 2023 at 9:00 am

The intent of the 2nd Amendment was to allow citizens to own firearms for protection of their homes, as well as for hunting for food. The 2nd Amendment was not written for the purpose of use against the government of the United States, but to allow citizen-soldiers (National Guard & the Army) to rally sufficient arms to combat foreign invasion, as was the case during the Revolutionary War. Common sense should be sufficient to establish that the founders did not intend for private citizens to take up arms against their own elected government based upon a subjunctive clause in the 2nd Amendment.

The misuse of the 2nd Amendment by Republicans, due to misinterpretation of its intent, and grievance over lost elections has pushed a false narrative that the 2nd Amendment's sole purpose is to overthrow the US government. If the government does not succumb to the desires of the minority of voters, the 2nd Amendment, in their belief, is their only solution to retain power.

There are hundreds of thousands of various Anti-Structure weapons out there, which makes them neither rare nor unusual, so I can have them right?

Instead of getting hung up on an ancient relic of a law, sensible states could make their own laws so that not just anyone can shoot up a small town. But no.

NRA Gun lobby’s big fraud on Second Amendment
The Gun Lobby’s interpretation of the Second Amendment is one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American People by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime. The real purpose of the Second Amendment was to ensure that state armies – the militia – would be maintained for the defense of the state. The very language of the Second Amendment refutes any argument that it was intended to guarantee every citizen an unfettered right to any kind of weapon he or she desires.

Yup. A 20 year old male using an AR-15 rifle and carrying 300 rounds, to murder 20 toddlers in under 5 minutes….exactly the type of freedom that the 2nd Amendment was written to protect.

    Ain't that right, republicans? 🤣

If the founders of the 2nd Amendment could be shown modern weaponry available to practically any 18 year old, plus little restriction on the number of bullets or guns, they might want to rethink the wording

When the 2nd Amendment was ratified, about 230 years ago, citizens were allowed to own "state of the art" firearms (muskets) that were EQUAL to those used by the Army. (BTW, they were also allowed to own cannons).
