What is it with commentators saying something about someone and then something spectacular happens involving them (usually something to their detriment).

I thought the "slash" was ridiculous too until the commentators went absolutely inane about it because honestly, even if not a slash penalty he IS trying to interfere with the goalie and Im pretty sure that is a penalty. (I didnt watch the game though so I dont know if there where a number of dodgy calls before this to make them frustrated or something).
