It wont hurt carriers… Carriers lose money on the phones…

It's not just a leasing program, rather a lease or buy program. If you make 24 months of payments, you own the phone. It's only a lease if you trade it in after 12 months. of course, Apple doesn't advertise the buy aspect, for obvious reasons.
