I love how Secretary Pete brings his A game to this unglamorous post. He gets how important it is for us to upgrade our infrastructure, both for our health and the health of our economy.

He can get to work changing the tire on my car. I've seen smaller craters on the moon than the potholes in the local roads.

Schipol Airport in Holland, Singapore, most European Capitals, and middle eastern countries have beautiful efficient systems. It seems like America has forgotten that infrastructure is the backbone of the economy. It’s the same here in Australia, our politicians are still living in the 19th century.

Yes! Keep asking that question: What is YOUR idea for solving the problem? And for Manchin, 25% isn't going to fund the entire bill, so where do you want the rest to come from?

All I hear is "No <insert bill here>" and "what about the debt," and no alternate solutions. I'm just barely old enough (in my 30s) to remember a time when Republicans bothered to write alternate bills for the legislation being debated and maybe pieces from both parties bill might get a vote. Now they just say "We ain't votin' for it" and laze about all day collecting a government salary. At this point, they are in worse than high schoolers – at least teenagers do homework or something in addition to showing up for roll call! And when Democrats were the minority, they sent hundreds of bills on what they thought were good ideas. Whether you agree with them or not, AT LEAST they try to do their jobs.

Stop voting for Republicans America! Go Independent, Democrat, or run for office yourself! The GOP is just wasting time and performing stunts and theatre to sucker donations out of people. Two years in charge of all three branches of government and they passed ONE thing – tax cuts for the rich that increased the deficit and our debt (that they all of a sudden care about again).

"The eyes of history are on this appointment." – Buttigeig

1964 Japan's first bullet trains were put in service and the the first Beatles album was released.

1998 China started the construction of 36,000km of high speed railways and high speed trains.

2021 US still has NO high speed railway and NO high speed trains.

Republicans will oppose anything that doesn't guzzle cash into their corporate donors' pockets. Use reconciliation and just move on without them. They clearly don't care about everyday people, so why should everyday people care about what they think?!

Everyone has enjoyed our existing infrastructure since it was built. If we quit dicking around and replace everything with the best modern improvements, it will provide the vehicle for our economy going forward. Mr. Bezos sees a bargain that is every bit as important as their core businesses. We really should be a viable alternative to Chinese international investment in infrastructure.

  35. @misasawada244

    January 8, 2024 at 6:54 pm

Don’t our businesses deserve the best infrastructure? We don’t know where everything is going to go post-Covid; we need to be in good shape at the least. I think the taxes will come around full circle to benefit the payer.

  36. @K-SD-DAD

    January 8, 2024 at 6:54 pm

Trump spent zero $ on infrastructure. He only cared about corporate and the wealthy.
