Why Netflix Is Struggling In India
Netflix has 137 million subscribers and a majority of them are international. But the streaming giant is still struggling to break into India, the world’s second-largest internet market. CNBC’s Alex Sherman explains why.
Netflix is currently valued much higher than other media companies. Despite a share pullback in recent months from more than $400 to about $285, Netflix has a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of more than 100 and an enterprise value-to-EBITDA ratio of about 70. For comparison, Disney has a P/E ratio of about 14 and an EV-to-EBITDA ratio of about 11. Viacom’s valuation ratios are both around 7.
This gaudy valuation is largely predicated on its international growth forecast. Breaking into India is critical for the company to double or triple its subscribers over the next 10 to 15 years, as many analysts have estimated. But Netflix hasn’t had an easy time spreading through India since it launched there in 2016. Faced with competition from local players and Amazon Prime Video, Netflix is facing an uncertain future in a country with more than 1.3 billion people.

Love seeing all the Indians blaming Netflix for its struggled. When in Reality, what doesn't struggle in India? The entire nation is a struggle and so are its people… India is so far behind in times that if Indiana Jones trotted up in 2022, he wouldn't even be out of place. India is wand was such a mess the UK couldn't even be bothered to deal with them….
In short, Netflix struggled in India because india is struggling and is a garbage tier country, literally with garbage everywhere, a Country that cant even figure out sewage and irrigation, something the European man was getting a grasp on a 1000 years ago. Miles off from the Western world.

Netflix makes mockery of Indian culture in its content, which Indians don't entertain. So, respect is what Netflix should learn.

1. All movies contain some sort of nudity. Most of indians watch family friendly shows(those shows have an audience too, but its too much now, every movie. like bro what?)
2. High pricing but with half shows
3. terrible subtitles
4. Biased against hindus(religious majority)

I believe money is also a reason but you see Netflix make movies and series for US situation or show which is US community centered , everybody in US can understand English,in India we have total 121 language, they make hindi movies but ,less than 50% ppl in india speak hindi, they have to make more regional movies or series ,like just released minnal murli,or something like that, prime video and Disney+ hotstar is too famous cuz they make regional movies ,not only hindi, prime video have joji, kala, etc and hotstar also have tons of non hindi indian movies, Netflix have to focus there . Else our young generation are quite interested in English series so, whatever happens the Indian Netflix subscription gonna increase rapid in future surely.
