It wasn’t clear how much vinegar was used, the shot was from above. Is it a tablespoon worth or more than that?

Harder to do than I would have imagined. Two different French restaurants. Two visits to the emergency room.

I just use a Teflon egg poaching pan. Heat the water, add one to four eggs to the pan, cover. Keep the water on an almost boil and three minutes and you are done. No dishes or utensils just nice perfect poached eggs.

So this is how we make poached eggs in a restaurant:
Bring water and vinegar to rolling boil, drop eggs and start timer on 2:30, reduce heat and remove the eggs. Simple

No one wants eggs that taste of vinegar. if the eggs are fresh then it's not required

Those eggs look horrible. It's exactly why I would never dream of placing eggs in simmering water, and I would never consider adding vinegar. I use a poaching pod in a steamer. No water gets anywhere near the eggs. They are cooked by the steam alone. Put a small knob of butter in the poaching pod and wipe it around to prevent the egg from sticking. A large egg from the supermarket needs 4 minutes and 10 seconds for a perfect poached egg. Other timings will be necessary, depending on the size and the freshness. Silicone poaching pods are available practically anywhere for very little cost and they can be used again and again.

Don't put the eggs directly onto kitchen or tissue paper as the eggs can stick… keep the grated spoon in-between or drain on a cloth napkin (clean one lol).

If you don't cut into the yolk afterwards, then I can't believe you've done it properly!

I have a single egg poacher that is approaching 35 years old and is basically falling apart , it has been cooked on high for many years and the inside of the pan is peeling away from high heat and unfiltered water over the years, today it will be retired and scrapped ✂️ as I found a new poacher in value village for $3 😁

Is vinegar necessary? I don't have it right now and I don't feel like making a trip to Safe way just to buy vinegar. It smells like private parts and I usually don't use it

I’m our family, we poached our eggs in milk with salt and pepper. The cooked egg and milk was poured onto a piece of buttered toast in a bowl. Mmmmm. Glad for the yummy reminder!
