We have a jelly belly store about a hour from our house, it’s about $15 a pound 😂, but so worth it 😊

These came out in the 90's in the UK, I think. They were awesome jelly beans but I remember them being super expensive.

The rainbow candy is a sight for sore eyes and its mere mention can cheer up even the most stern.
However the news of how they're made is not so sweet.
And while their main ingredient is sugar, did you know jelly beans are made from tiny amounts of insect secretions deemed safe for consumption?
They are coated with shellac, that very same substance you request when you walk into a nail salon.

I lived near a Jelly Belly factory many years ago. They were near cow farms… depending on wind direction, you were either pleasantly greeted with fruit candy smells or 💩
