US forces carried out strikes against Iran hours after President Donald Trump blamed Tehran for shooting down an American military helicopter off the coast of Oman. Iran’s joint military command said it had targeted “several US bases in the region.”

Stocks resumed their slide as technology shares remained under pressure and investors trimmed positions ahead of a key inflation reading in the US. Gold dropped.

The US military struck Iran for a second day and Tehran retaliated against American allies in the Persian Gulf, raising fears that the escalation may derail talks on a permanent peace deal.

Minutes from the Fed’s June meeting show that a few officials said there was a case for raising interest rates, though they ultimately supported the decision to stay on hold.
