Published

on

The growing influence of Asian American voters becomes a key focus in the 2024 election race. Highlighted by a remarkable 84% increase in turnout in Georgia in 2020, Asian Americans are shaping electoral outcomes in crucial swing states. DNC and RNC invest heavily, recognizing their potential influence. As 2024 campaigns intensify, both parties vie for their support, reflecting their rising political importance. NBC News’ Sahil Kapur joins Morning Joe to discuss.

Asians used to live in California and NY that their votes really didnt matter much, but Asians moving to Virginia, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada really increased Asian American clout in the national politics. Korean is literally third largest language spoken in Georgia and Virginia and Korean American alone in these two states can really impact who gets to be elected as POTUS.

Take a look at SF and Oakland and see how Asians there are treated by those who run those areas

Most Asian Americans are dumb when comes to politics. They like authoritative figures and will vote for republicans.

And no they aren't that decisive because most live in either Texas or California which electoral college makes pointless in voting.

To Joe's point, I live in San Jose, which is near Ro Kanna's district. I have seen him speak several times. I go to Chinese, Japanese, Mexican and Indian markets all the time. I consider them blessings. I think Democrats are more aligned for now, but things could change.

Oh, I think the MAGA GOP has been communicating very effectively with AAPI voters, showing their true colors, as it were. I'm sure AAPI voters in 2024 will still remember how Trump and the MAGA GOP targeted them during COVID, leading to, among other things, elder Asians being brutally attacked on the street in various cities. Of course they showed up at the polls in record numbers. It's laughable the GOP thinks they can woo AAPI voters while radicalized GOP voters firmly line up behind the man who renamed COVID in racist terms, that endangered Asian Americans of all backgrounds, not just those with Chinese ancestry–bc Trump gave radical right extremists the go-ahead to violently attack those perceived as an enemy to MAGA.

You can't be the party of prejudice and then expect ppl you've targeted to vote for you in large numbers, just bc you share certain social norms–that's just not enough after watching vids of elder Asian ppl getting beaten up on the street. If the GOP had concentrated on wooing conservative Latinx and AAPI ppl, while repudiating white supremacists, and Trump…well, they'd be a very different party today.

The fact that we're still talking about the need to specifically court certain demographics to win in swing states, when the head of one of the two parties is a fascist cult leader, blows my mind. There really shouldn't be any 'swing states' at this point.

With IA and NH among the least diverse states in the US (Google it), why would the mass population of voters of color believe those states determine the best candidate?

  24. @IslandFilmMaker

    December 11, 2023 at 8:52 pm

So True! The Asian Americans Vote was a HUGE deciding factor in certain States for the 2020 election. I don't agree that will be case in 2024! The Asian Vote isn't going to influence as much in 2024 because the BIGGER WIN VOTES WILL COME FROM WOMEN! Women have had ENOUGH with Republicans trying to shove their rights down their throats and tell them what they can do with their own bodies! WOMEN are NOT GOING to STAND BY and "ALLOW REPUBLICANS to TAKE AWAY their FREEDOMS & RIGHTS" and WILL STRONGLY SHOW IT in VOTES in 2024! I'd LIKE TO SEE A POLL ON THAT! I believe those numbers would show American Women above 70% VOTING FOR the BIDEN/HARRIS TICKET in 2024. So the Asian Americans Vote won't be needed in the deciding votes in any State for 2024. It's GAME OVER for the REPUBLICANS again. Hopefully the Republicans clean up their act, get rid of their MEGA MOB and gain back some respect by 2028.
