Political analysts say GOP debate was ‘an absolute crap show,’ with ‘no joy’ and ‘negative populism’

Published

on

In the second GOP primary debate, Republican Presidential hopefuls fought for second place behind frontrunner former President Donald Trump, who stole the show even though he did not attend. Andrea Mitchell is joined by John Kasich, Robert Gibbs and Michael Steele to discuss main takeaways from the debate. “Last night was an absolute crap show. It was nonsense. There was nothing redeeming about it,” Steele says. “There just seemed to be no joy last night,” Kasich adds. “What Donald Trump has brought on the Republican Party is this negative populism.”

Ronald Reagan is the reason why the wealth gap between the peons and the pimps increased so markedly over the last forty years. Everytime I hear that boy's name I get a headache. He was just a b-grade movie actor. Acting. 👍

What was totally absent was a person anyone would admire and respect. Not one of them is Presidential material. After Trump, we need a stellar individual if we're going to have a President at all.

  38. @osamabinladenssecondgirlfr4241

    December 17, 2023 at 8:04 pm

Haha come on Kasich, no one is buying the idea that Biden people are "hoping" to close the nomination.

Biden repeating is nearly a foregone conclusion, and if you don't think so or are truly hung up on his age, just rewatch either of the dueling events from last night. And that's only if you think he is doing a bad job!

  39. @osamabinladenssecondgirlfr4241

    December 17, 2023 at 8:04 pm

Huh? This panel really disputed that Biden was the real winner tonight?

Well, it is politics, and no where is "everyone has a personal preference" more apt, but to me, this debate only clarified that Biden is pulling far and away ahead

Interesting segment. 3 senior republicans discussing the current crop of candidates. All referred to Ronald Reagan , in a positive manner. Ronald Reagan is the guy that started the ball rolling to the current crisis, for the Republican Party. Reagan started the war on the middle class. Reagan started to empowerment of the 1%. Reagan crushed the unions, then sold US manufacturing to offshore countries, to the corporations benefit.

Clown show would be a better description, but the problem was that the biggest-and-best-ever-clown-ever-to-be-president clown didn't show up to insult his understudies!

President Trump is facing backlash not just from Democrats, but from some Republicans following his decision to waive congressionally approved sanctions and tariffs against Russia. The White House is also denying that they limited Ukraine’s military operations after their Starlink networks were disrupted this week. Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn called for an investigation into “Trump’s aid and comfort to Putin”. President Zelenskyy also offered his thoughts on the sanctions, noting that lifting them was quote: “wrong” and “only helps the Russians”. Virginia Democratic Rep.
