Kevin Warsh to Speak at Sintra, ECB Warns Inflation Shock Not Over | Daybreak Europe 7/1/2026

Published

on

Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we’ll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins.

On today’s show, European Central Bank officials have cautioned that the inflation shock caused by the Iran war is not over yet. But policymakers at the ECB’s annual forum in Sintra stopped short of calling for another interest-rate increase for now. Kevin Warsh is due to speak at the conference, in his first appearance on the international stage as Fed Chairman.

Oil edged higher despite the US touting progress in indirect talks with Iran in Qatar. A senior US official says ships are continuing to transit the Strait of Hormuz at higher levels.

And the US has lifted export restrictions on Anthropic’s Fable 5 AI model, after the Trump administration’s security concerns were addressed. Anthropic says it will begin restoring access on Wednesday.

Today’s guest: Sabrina Khanniche, Pictet Asset Management, Senior Economist.

Iran Says it Will Control Hormuz & Has No Plans to Meet US in Qatar | Daybreak Europe 6/30/2026

Published

on

Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we’ll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins.

On today’s show, stocks in Asia headed for their biggest quarterly jump since 2009, as investors piled back into companies seen as beneficiaries of the AI buildout. Elsewhere, the yen extended its recent losses to weaken beyond 162 per dollar — a milestone that will generate unease in Japan and put traders on alert for intervention.

A top Iranian official says Iran is determined to maintain control over maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, raising the stakes ahead of talks, which the US says will take place in Doha on Tuesday. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi says there are no plans for Iranian officials to meet US delegates in Qatar.

And the ECB President Christine Lagarde has lauded Europe’s resilience to economic shocks in her opening speech at the ECB’s annual forum in Sintra, Portugal.
