Published

on

Bloomberg’s Dan Flatley and Kate Ackley discuss Speaker Johnson’s letter and the latest on Ukraine funding as Republicans block Ukraine aid Wednesday for not getting a good deal on border security. They also give their insights on what the timeframe for passing aid for Ukraine, Israel, and border security looks like. Both Dan and Kate speak with Annmarie Hordern and Joe Mathieu on Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power.”

We need money to manage our US border. Not send money over to Ukrain. Just because Ukrain lined your pockets with bucks doesn't mean the taxpayer should cover your feelings with millions of dollars. Armenian peoples need help. Lets help them too, Joe.

Good! We need to stop funding the Ukraine War. The only reason it's neen funded thus far is because Biden paid off a prosecutor!!! Not with my tax dollars would I ever approve of this! Quit funding a damn war!
Ukraine is not even our allie nor is it a member of Nato! Out debt is nearly 34 Trillion DOLLARS! We don't have an endless supply of money to keep funding any war! Biden should not have sent IRAN 7.6 Billion dollars either, that only funded the Hamas terrorists!!! Biden acts like he supports Israel, that's the biggest lie ever!!!!

Yeah keep sending more money to Ukraine so that more Ukrainians can die in addition to the 450,000 Ukrainians that have perished due to American aid. Russia and Ukraine had a peace plan drawn up one month after the invasion but Biden and Boris Johnson TOLD Ukraine not to honor it and to fight on. Men have been kidnapped off the streets to fight, men under 18, old men, and now women are being conscripted to fight. They have run out of men because America keeps forcing this war to continue and Ukraine doesnt have amy more men! No one cares about the half a million that have died becayse of you Americans!

Question: Instead of constant blackmail whenever urgent business is on the table, why don't Republicans put forward their own legislation for honest debate? Could it be that being a spoiler is all that is available to irresponsible Republicans? Looks like. G'won, boys, give 'em more of the money you do not pay in taxes. Just don't try to look honest men in the eyes.

  37. @michellesmith4570

There should be no more Foreign Aid, given to Ukraine especially after having received over 200 billion dollars, retired Ukrainian refugees thatve been brought to the US, have been permitted to claim/receive SSI benefits, off the years back breaking work, hard working US citizens have put in and paid towards our SSI benefits which most have had their benefits cut in half, conveniently after refugees from another country, never having worked in the US or had paid one dime towards our SSI have been receiving payments, many claimants have had their benefits immediately stopped, as SSI claims these claimants have been overpaid and until the 60K plus in many cases is oaid back, they won't have a dime but tuese cases they've been investigated, have been found to be "clerical errors" made by tue SSA but what i believe is truly happening is, the current insanely corrupted administration, SSA thays approved foreigns to take our own money, are trying to claim overpayments, as a means to squeeze even more money from the American public. Why would Ukraine need another cent from the US!!? Ukraine is known as one of the most corrupted countries in the world, has had a past with the Ukraine military fighting on the side of Nazi soldiers during the Holocaust, this Nazi ideology still exists today, as theres a huge issue with Nazism in Ukraine, the citizens are taught, encouraged and support the inciting of violence towards Jewish persons, agree with genocide of Jewish persons, still give a Nazi salute to their military and their government and although I do not agree with killing any innocent person on this earth, I cannot stomach ideology that calls for others of a certain race, a certain religion etc to be harmed or killed, so I will never support Ukraine and even in Canada recently, leaders of Canada celebrated a retired Nazi veteran, honored him, gave him a standing ovation and gave him the Hitler salute w

US Strikes Iran as Tehran Hits US Bases Across Gulf | Horizons Middle East & Africa 9/2/2026

Published

on

US and Iran exchange strikes as the conflict intensifies, with US forces targeting Iranian air-defense and radar systems and Tehran launching what it calls a “decisive operation” against US bases across the region, including a drone attack on a US base in Bahrain. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz.
Oil prices extend gains after the attacks, while Asian stocks decline as higher oil prices and bond yields weigh on markets. Bessent also signals US support for possible Bank of Japan action on the yen.
Australia’s economy grows 0.4% quarter-on-quarter in Q2, beating expectations and strengthening the case for higher interest rates, while New Zealand raises its benchmark rate by 25 basis points.
In technology, Nvidia is reportedly nearing a $14 billion deal for Hugging Face, Google could launch a new AI model, and Elon Musk says AI could eventually expand the global economy by 20% to 30%.
At the G20, Bessent says China was the main dissenter and blocked a joint communique over its trade surplus, while Beijing objected to language on supply chains and critical minerals.
Search teams continue looking for survivors in Nepal’s hydropower tunnels as the death toll surpasses 1,000, with no new updates reported from Tibet.
Senegal secures a $2.2 billion IMF deal as the country faces around $10 billion in annual debt-servicing needs.
Across the Gulf, resilience is reshaping a $2.1 trillion GCC investment cycle. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is pushing to improve portfolio returns, control rising costs and address project delays. Its roughly $905 billion portfolio includes Savvy Games Group, New Murabba and Riyadh Air, as the fund remains central to Vision 2030 and Saudi Arabia’s drive to diversify beyond hydrocarbons.
Saudi Arabia also raises $3.25 billion through a bond sale that attracted more than $15 billion in peak orders. Guests includes Steven Major, Tradition Dubai Global Macro Advisor, Ben Powell, Blackrock Investment Institute Chief Middle East & APAC investment strategist.

Horizons Middle East & Africa is your daily spotlight on one of the world’s fastest-growing regions. Live from Dubai, we bring you the latest global markets and analysis, plus news-making interviews, with a special focus on MEA. All that and more, as you head to the office in the Gulf, pause for lunch in Hong Kong, or start your day in London or Johannesburg.
