US-Iran Deal in Limbo; Colombia Voters Go to the Polls | Bloomberg This Weekend: May 31

Published

on

Listen to Bloomberg This Weekend for unique conversations spanning news, politics, lifestyle and culture.
David Gura, Christina Ruffini and Lisa Mateo bring you unique discussions and in-depth conversations with lawmakers, business leaders and cultural icons.
Bloomberg This Weekend gives you insight to make sense of the world.

Today’s show includes conversations with:
– Bloomberg News Reporter Jeff Mason
– Bloomberg TV Chief Europe Correspondent Oliver Crook
– Bloomberg Colombia Bureau Chief Andrea Jaramillo
– Bloomberg Economics Lead Chris Kennedy
– Bloomberg Opinion Columnist Gautam Mukunda
– Bloomberg Business of Sports Host Vanessa Perdomo
– Former National Security Advisor John Bolton
– Bloomberg Opinion Columnist Ron Brownstein
– Bloomberg Opinion Columnist Erika Smith
– Bloomberg Opinion Columnist Adrian Wooldridge
– Bloomberg Pursuits Luxury Reporter Sarah Rappaport

Here are the stories we’re covering today:
-Several Americans were hurt in a missile attack on a Kuwaiti air base over the past day as negotiations to extend the ceasefire with Iran dragged on without conclusion.
– Japan rejected China’s accusation that it’s pursuing “new militarism,” a sharp rebuke against Beijing as tensions between the two countries continue to simmer.
– The US and Iran have reached a tentative deal to extend a ceasefire by 60 days and launch further talks on Tehran’s nuclear program, a person with knowledge of the matter said, raising hopes the three-month conflict could be nearing a resolution.
– Ukraine is running short on key US-made air-defense supplies that it needs to intercept Russia’s ballistic missiles, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a letter to Donald Trump and US Congress seen by Bloomberg.
– Colombians go to the polls to elect a new President. Three candidates are in focus: Ivan Cepeda, incumbent Gustavo Petro’s left-wing heir; Paloma Valencia, backed by former President Alvaro Uribe and representing Colombia’s traditional right; and Abelardo de la Espriella, a right-wing outsider described as “a mix of Milei and Bukele.” The two candidates with the most votes will likely face each other in a June runoff.
– The Trump administration launched its “Economic Fury” campaign to hobble Iran’s economy with sanctions more than a month ago. So far, the country is unbowed.
– Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. hit a fresh record on Tuesday, lifted by investor enthusiasm after the New York Knicks clinched their first NBA Finals berth in nearly three decades.
– Tom Steyer is vying to become California’s next governor. He is now out-polling several competitors with government experience, including a former congresswoman and an ex-mayor of Los Angeles. California’s primary system allows the top two candidates to advance to the general election regardless of party. Recent polls show Steyer in third place, close behind Democrat Xavier Becerra — US health and human services secretary under President Joe Biden — and Republican commentator Steve Hilton.
