Oprah Winfrey sheds tears while watching Gayle King’s Blue Origin launch
On Monday morning, Blue Origin, the aerospace company owned by Jeff Bezos, launched an all-female crew into space that included singer Katy Perry and journalist Gayle King.
Along with Perry and King, the crew was comprised of former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, and Bezos’s fiancée, Lauren Sanchez.
Oprah Winfrey, who is King’s best friend, was in the crowd watching the launch, and removed her glasses and wept when the capsule touched down.
The flight lasted around 11 minutes and traveled more than 60 miles above Earth, according to Blue Origin, passing the Kármán line, which is considered to be the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space.

President Trump’s selection to chair the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh, testified in a Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday as his nomination faces bipartisan opposition centered on a federal criminal investigation into the central bank’s current leader Jerome Powell.
Republican Sen. Thom Tillis told ABC News’ Elizabeth Schulze that he supports Warsh to chair the Fed, but won’t vote to confirm him as long as Powell is being investigated.
