‘A real escalation’: France protests boil over into violent riots
French officials are exploring introducing curfews as the country reels from its worst rioting in years after protests over education and the cost of living spiraled into a wave of deadly, country-wide violence that has sparked a blame game at home and threatens to spill over into its European neighbors.
Over the weekend, police fired tear gas into crowds and fought running battles with black-clad, hooded rioters who set fires and broke into shops and government buildings, with images showing historic buildings ablaze.
The mood in the country remained tense on Monday, with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu asking some cities to impose “partial curfews” to protect people, property and businesses.
CNN’s Melissa Bell reports on the aftermath of the violence and CNN European affairs commentator Dominic Thomas and journalist Cole Stangler discuss the political implications as France moves towards elections next Spring.

Trump’s press secretary fired after 5 days and one briefing
President Donald Trump has fired Katie Zacharia as press secretary, advisers to the president said, ending her turbulent week-long stint as the White House’s top spokesperson.
Trump told reporters earlier he had asked Zacharia to reconsider her role, all but declaring her brief tenure in the job over. “Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider,” Trump said he told Zacharia on Friday morning.
It was a remarkable vote of no confidence in Zacharia, who entered the job a week ago. Her shaky debut in the briefing room on Tuesday and persistent questions about her background had led to immense scrutiny from the media and fellow Trump aides.

Imagine how much dumber Trump is than Romney, Obama would have obliterated Trump in debates

the bankers are dangerous not at all to be trusted.america needs to really wake up and be who we are,but still protect, ourselfs well, get rid of the patriot act would be a great start.this is my third post. we all would rather have peace than war.but protection,is important.

I would bring out the big guns, and elect an independent, that is not controlled by the bankers, and protect our coast lines well, battle, ships would do fine.they can fire nuc shells instead of standerd,if needed, plus missils.nobody really wants none,so I think every American, should fly, the, flag, that by itself,is enough,to intimidate, the bad guys.

You are clueless. There is no evidence for anything you state here. Obama is not creating division among the people, idiot bigots like you and your kind are. It's like saying abolitionists caused division by advocating for the abolishment of slavery. NO IT WAS THE SYSTEM OF SLAVERY. Calling bigots out is not creating division, its creating justice.

Mitt always has that look on his face… It's the face you make when you say something that you think sounds smart and once someone else starts talking, you automatically tell yourself you've already won and start singing songs in your head while they try to talk to you.

December 13, 2023 at 11:24 pm
All the people posting about Obama cutting military benefits: The President doesn't make any laws or determine how much money gets spent by the Federal government. The President submits a budget REQUEST to Congress, who then analyzes his request, figures out what they want, and creates the actual budget. The President then has no say over it. Congress has the power of the purse; the President looks good on TV. The media just tries to get you riled up by feeding you bullshit

North Korea. I heard their air force is the most advanced air force in the world. And so is their navy. And ground forces. Far superior to the American Imperialists. The Great Kim Jong Un would never lie to us, would he?

December 13, 2023 at 11:24 pm
Thats not how it happened. First of all Ambassador Stevens reports to Mrs.Clinton. Not Obama. Secondly they had not been under attack for weeks. The people delibritly stopped attacking other locations for months to build up their forces. Moron
