Dolly Parton, who rose from humble beginnings to the greatest heights of American music and became one of the country’s most philanthropic, unifying and beloved stars, died Tuesday in Nashville, according to a family statement. She was 80. The statement, attributed to her nephew Bryan Seaver, said Parton died “peacefully.” A small, private service will be held for her close family, the statement added.
In a career that spanned over half a century, Parton captured the American experience, penning more than 3,000 songs. Those included “Coat of Many Colors,” a quiet ode to her mother, who stitched together garments in the family’s rural Tennessee home. She wrote and performed songs of love and heartbreak, like “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.” “9 to 5,” the title track from the movie of the same name, in which Parton also starred, became an anthem for American women and workers.
Later in life, she funneled her massive success into philanthropy, founding a library program that has gifted more than 300 million books to children around the world.

Currently, largely because of my disappointment in Kamala Harris, Chris Christie may be my preferred candidate … but his views on Nuclear Power are a huge problem for me.
Please disclose the contractual taxpayer subsidies for taking over the cost, land, and personnel to store & protect the nuclear waste after the first few years (& how many thousands to millions of years this waste will be hazardous, and accelerate decay of storage devices).
Nuclear isn't clean, just invisible, and it's not a sustainable source of energy.
That's not even mentioning the thermal pollution that's created when previously stable/bound energy is unleashed (vs just harvested), annnnd then used to generate even more heat,
if we only focus on the
greenhouse trapping by
carbon emissions
vs
also reducing the human-generates heat the greenhouse is trapping thus
further aggravating
Global Warming.
I'm not speaking in absolutes (some oil, coal, nuclear, Etc.) is necessary for the foreseeable future, yet, in my opinion, the financial (in taxes, historically hidden from utility bills), health, environmental, and security (from "bad actors", foreign & domestic), pales in comparison to any short-term gains.
Ignorance, willful or otherwise, about this, including (apparently) in Chris Christie's ledger, imperils our descendants even more than the on-record (vs adding in est commitments for spending re private corporations' nuclear waste) National Debt.
Misc lesser points to Christi re public education failings per allocation:
1) Many, if not most, states require educational funds to be available to spend for other reasons, which rewards perpetual educational-system poverty that most voters will vote to increase funding for (analogous to Social Security mandates to deposit citizens' contributions into the "general fund" making the money borrowed from and thus owed them look like Soc Sec is causing that part of our Nat'l Debt).
2) Equalizing funds & results therefrom across ALL public schools is MORE Important than helping families who can almost afford private parochial schools get tax relief. Accomplishing both would be fine, but I feel passionately that, foremost, any POTUS owes EVERY single child access to an equivalent public education (incl diagnosis of special needs, and as many accomodations as research has proven will meet their needs re education). If China has taught us anything, it should include that intellectual property, thus the ability to generate it, is a valuable investment to be competitive in a global market. Not to mention that the U.S. needs to build "cyber-armies" (domestic & military) of tech-savvy anti-hackers going forward.
3) The quote: ~ "A secure democracy depends on an informed electorate" includes teaching our citizens how to "critique" propaganda (recognize & resist), no matter how annoying that may be for advertisers & electioneers!
4) Public Education needs to teach civil debate & laws re abuse, defense vs aggression, cyber-bullying, collaborative problem solving, The Karpman/Drama triangle, and differences between personal freedom vs rights to harm others (while giving them the skills needed to ways to be "heard" and meet their needs through civil actions).
4) Enough "contract law" education to avoid being duped, ability to research and fact-check info others put forward as "truth", and financial literacy.

It's a "Brave New World", that I have faith Chris Christie has the
> Innate intellect + [un]common sense;
> Moral compass;
> brain-muscle and history of time spent reading boring textbooks that develop the patience many lack for truly considering the consequences of new legislation and other choices they make;
> Willingness to suspend ego in persuit of U.S. well-being (incl cooperating across any "lines", incl w/members of "opposing" political parties … who Christie had pointed out also represent "We the people";
> Doesn't model abusive behavior!!!!!!!

What non-MAGA Republicans and non-Christian Nationalists don't understand is that 80% or more of the children in these cultures are molested, male and female. I know I live in the middle of this culture. Where I live is a big farming area, mostly white, mostly Christian, primarily high school educated many dropouts working on family farms, never leaving the area, primarily low income. Every new friend I make has a story that blows my mind. How common and reoccurring sexual abuses are. Generations of damaged children growing up and NEVER saying anything while the same abuser abuses generations of kids in the family, church, or neighborhood. Most wives are beaten and don't press charges until they end up in the hospital, but drop them in court. They never get mental health help until they end up in the hospital for alcohol, drugs, or suicide attempt. I can see how the fear and brainwashing of the Christian right cause this, how lack of education has caused this, and how conspiracy theory videos help remove the blame on the real issues and become fact in the mind. Most of the people I meet hate reading because they can't really read or some other excuse so videos are their information source and whatever the Church is advertising as a good news station, like Fox or Newsmax. I was one of these brainwashed, fearful Republicans before Trump. Grew up in Florida and was raised in heavy Christian Nationalism. The only way I was able to see the LIGHT of truth was by moving far away and not having that crap hammered into my head every day. Before Trump this area was always Republican, not MAGA, then the Church got involved because of Trump's promises of abortion bands. That is why my brother a Georgia Pastor and music minister voted for Trump and brushed past his sins because God will handle that. He believes America was meant to be a Christian Country as did I, not a Democracy. Being educated does not mean you can't get brainwashed. Now with Social Media and technology, anyone can get their daily dose of brainwashing at home. Listen to what the preachers are preaching and you will know how the Christian Nationalist people will vote. Get the big MEGA (MAGA) Church to change what they preach and you will see Trump fall. But that won't happen because Trump will give them free control of the laws that passed and it will all be old testament Biblical-based to suit their agenda. Realizing that I had been brainwashed hurt me to my core. Let's be honest, a religion where one party is worshiped and others are under that person's authority is a CULT. A Country where one man is President and has Christian Republicans (MAGA) as Congress and Supreme Court is Fascist at best. Men are evil and they gravitate to evil, religion does not stop any of that in fact it gives it a free pass. Molest a child on Saturday and go to church on Sunday. All is forgiven. Brainwashing at its best. Try an Interview in front of a Megachurch and see what is said. MAGA the silent Christians in 2024. This is not just a problem for lower-educated whites it is a problem for every culture, color, and creed anywhere where education is sparse, money is sparse, but church or other religious activities are free. The difference is the white Christian Nationalist and MAGA Republicans base wants to take over this country to make it the Christian County because that was what the founding fathers wanted to do. Nothing is further than from the truth. They are voting for their god Trump because he promised the end of abortion, keep guns, make homosexuality illegal and put women back in the home. Remember Trump told the world that he could stand on 5th Ave in NYC and shoot someone and not be charged, it seems that for the moment it is not a true statement because he is being charged with many crimes and has been found guilty of sexual assault charges which he believes is a right for rich powerful white men. I believe if he becomes president again the world will see Trump use the Military to shoot many people on 5th Ave under Marshal Law and get away with it and many other crimes. I try every day to post the truth and talk to family and friends about this. I am the black sheep the backslider the hell bound in the family. I am hoping and believing that the veil will fall and eyes will open before 2024, but I am getting ready for the storm that is about to hit. Wake up Media people you're missing the mark and you will be a part of the downfall of this country. My opinion.

christie could not be more wrong on the russia-ukraine conflict. at the current pace russia will do anything to capture ukraine, regardless of the casualties. the hundreds of billions that the west have sent to ukraine are completely in vain. if there's any geopolitical maneuver that's worth taking against china, would be to get russia on our side. the country has a gdp comparable to that of italy, yet siberia is one of the most resource-rich regions on earth. there's a lot of economic potential to be had and if we don't act on it, china will get there first.
