Will Robots Replace Fast Food Workers?
This robot named Flippy runs the fry station at a White Castle outside of Chicago. With a mechanical arm and using computer vision technology Flippy can cook everything from french fries and onion rings to cheese sticks. White Castle said it plans to add 100 Flippy’s to its kitchens’ nationwide. Up to 82% of restaurant positions could, to some extent, be replaced by robots. Automation could save U.S. fast food restaurants over $12 billion in annual wages. And restaurants are also struggling to find workers. American restaurants are down more than 560,000 jobs or about 4.6% of its workforce from their pre-pandemic levels. So what impact will robots have on the fast food industry and the livelihood of its workers? CNBC got a behind the scenes look at restaurant robot maker Miso Robotics to find out.

Yes, it will replace all worker as it's more cost effective and less prone to sick and cost. However, to fix that robot will require a human to maintain and program it. Most people are never going to change or learn but unless you do you'll just be at the bottom of the food chain.

I am 100% in favor of robots replacing fast food workers especially. If you can't do your job properly and efficiently (AND get my f***ing order right!) then you don't deserve the job. We should also replace DMV workers and the United States Supreme Court with robots.
Do your job right or get replaced by technology. It's that simple.

In Japan, I ate at a restaurant where the curry rice was prepared and brought to the table by robots. There were people keeping an eye on the robots through the whole process. It was slow, and clearly imperfect. But it did work to a degree. It was really a practical research project, rather than an automated restaurant. This video shows how automation in some aspects of the process can help the business. People state in the video "the robot don't need time off" while ignoring the fact that all machines require maintenance.

Several years ago, Mc Donalds began a joint venture with a tech company to design equipment to operate fast food restaurants. I believe they were co-owners in the venture. I also heard that their recent remodels have included higher ceilings to incorporate robotics technology, but I don't know that that's true. As a CPA/Financial Statement Auditor and business consultant, technology has been the leading cause of job loss (technically "reduction") in America. I've personally watched head count decline from the mid 90's until now. An audit that would have taken 50 auditors in the 1970s to complete required only 10 auditors by the time I came into the business. Computers, spreadsheets and word documents did that. This is the reason that the wealthy tech people have been introducing the concept of "guaranteed minimum income". Once labor cost approaches the cost of implementing technology, the implementation becomes a "no brainer". As individuals, we do the same in our own lives. It's a Brave New World.

This annoys me …. Automated transportation, trucks and so on .. the check out chick is getting shoved out the door at Walmart. Now this … automatic McDonald’s etc .. well once unemployment reaches a palpable level i guess someone could inform the poor and jobless . That if you burn down the same restaurant enough times in a row they cant get insurance to cover the next fire 🔥. Theres only so many times an owner is gonna shell out for automation of this upscale kind . Maybe 3 fires and pimple face is back behind the counter where i like her .
Revolutions are born from necessity. ITs necessary for people to have jobs . Stop designing people out of employment.

I worked in a car parts manufacturer. One day 60 robot arms were brought in & over a few months they had replaced 180 people who load casting on the the lines to the cnc machines on 3 shifts. 180 job POOF all gone. Over the next 15 years they brought in more & more & the former 380 work force is under 100 now & producing the same number of parts. In 5 – 3 year contracts we got the equivalent of a 55 cent raise. Company makes $12.5 billion dollars profit a year after our wages are paid
