How Americans Are Tricked Into Buying Fake Food

Published

on

The food in your kitchen cabinets may not be what it seems. Fraudsters motivated by economic gain secretly infiltrate the global food market through a variety of means, including counterfeits, dilutions, substitution and mislabeling, according to the Global Food Safety Initiative. This may not only harm consumers’ wallets, but it can also put public health and safety at risk. Some estimates say food fraud affects at least 1% of the global food industry at a cost as high as $40 billion a year, according to the FDA.

Humans are greedy. We should go back to the time when 75% of the food was produced in home gardens, homesteads and small local farms.

You're headline presents this as if we should be aware of fake food as if there wasn't a food and drug administration of some sort to look into these things…. is the fda that useless? And what are you doing to stop it? You're a bunch of fear mongers and schills! Your headline should be "FDA doesn't do anything, here's how we will sensationalize it!" Saving your own image by throwing others under the bus eh? The powerful really don't have any respect and will indeed cannibalize each other

Talked about fake olive oil, gave example of two store brands, then did not say which is fake. Vague mentions of fake products and no demos. At the end, the reporting feels as fake as its subject matter. Garbage reporting from a garbage outlet.

They don't mention that the FDA is a rotating door of the awful food companies employees to take jobs in the FDA. Then going back to high paying jobs in the industry after. It's like the fox watching the henhouse.

The FDA is pretty corrupt like most government agencies. The FCC and USDA run exactly the same way. They definitely won't save you or really even help you.

Why Fuel Economy Rollbacks Will Spur More Trucks, More V-8 Engines

Published

on

By

Lowered compliance costs, greater control over products, more big engines, more pickup trucks. These are just some of the changes investors expect from the rollback of fuel economy rules and the elimination of fines. Data indicate pent up demand for pickup trucks, and many automakers are bringing back V-8 engines. At the same time, hybrid vehicles are surging, and electric vehicles have longer term structural demand in their favor.

The Race To Power AI Is Reshaping America’s Electric Grid

Published

on

By

AI data centers are driving unprecedented demand for electricity and putting renewed pressure on America’s power grid to modernize its equipment and develop greener, more efficient sources of power. Google, Meta, Microsoft and Amazon are all spending millions of dollars on local infrastructure upgrades and companies like SpaceXAI are even building off-grid power plants to power their data centers.

Google says its planned 780-megawatt data center in Pine Island, Minnesota, could offer a model for powering the AI boom. In a proposed agreement with Xcel Energy, Google says it will support 1,900 megawatts of new wind, solar and battery capacity, while minimum payments and exit fees are intended to protect local ratepayers if demand falls short.

CNBC examines whether projects like Pine Island can make the grid cleaner without shifting costs to existing customers, why some energy experts argue that smaller data centers could make better use of infrastructure already in place, and how utilities’ financial incentives can complicate efforts to build less.

0:00 – 2:06 Introduction
2:07 – 4:49 Off-grid solutions
4:50 – 9:00 Upgrading the grid
9:01 – 11:44 Smaller data centers

A leak by Indian supplier Tata Electronics, purportedly of the yet-to-be-released iPhone 18 Pro models, has become marketing gold for the Chinese government. The Communist Party paper, The Global Times, is using the leak – caused by a cyberattack – as a cautionary tale for Apple and other American companies that are in the process of diversifying their supply chains away from China. CNBC’s Eunice Yoon reports.

00:58 Correction: The location tag should be Beijing, China.
