How Joby And Delta Are Making Flying Taxis A Reality
Advances in battery and electric propulsion technology have enabled entirely new types of aircraft to take to the skies. Startups Joby, Archer, Vertical, Lilium and more are developing eVTOLs, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, with the vision of making flying taxis a reality. CNBC got an inside look at Joby Aviation, one of the eVTOL players that has grand ambitions of not only building the aircraft, but operating an Uber-like air taxi business.

Meta Is Facing Its Biggest Trial Yet, And Its Future Hangs In The Balance
Meta is facing what could be its most consequential trial yet, as 29 state attorneys general accuse the tech giant of knowingly designing Facebook and Instagram to addict children and misleading the public about the risks. The states are seeking civil penalties that could approach $200 billion and changes to core features like infinite scroll and autoplay, while Meta says the claims are unsubstantiated and that it has built strong protections for teens. The outcome of the federal trial could reshape how social media platforms are designed and open the door to greater liability for companies across the industry. CNBC’s Julia Boorstin examines why this case could become Big Tech’s “Big Tobacco” moment, and what a loss could mean for Meta’s business and the future of social media.

I am massively concerned that the experiment of capitalism has been a failure of humanity because there is no mention of using these innovative transport vehicles for life saving medical transport. This is the sort of product which you use to transport a heart across the world. I understand the importance of receiving financial returns on the company's investments for the prototyping. However, the fact that we are continuously perpetuating a system which doesn't allow for saving lives to be the foremost use of such a product brings me to tears.

eVTOL has already lapsed AMTRACK 100 fold. The fact that these major government subsidized airline companies are funneling BILLIONS of dollars into eVTOL is a DIRECT indicator that it will in fact be a part of the very near future of travel. It also coincides with Boeings statement a couple of years ago about reducing their carbon footprint by nearly 50% by 2050 I believe it was.
Not only will this be accessible to the Public very soon, but it'll most likely revolutionize air travel as we know it as we continue to progress on battery life span. Think of how many people would rather hop in an eVTOL to travel from Florida to Charlotte NC. The quietness, the low altitude, as well as not being surrounded by 200 other people in a tin can 30,000ft in the air is a HUGE sell point. Even if that means having to hop on multiple eVTOL's to get to your desired state.
I know that I personally would be the first in line. I would rather take 5 eVTOL's to NY that takes 5hrs from FL rather than hop on a commercial airplane lmao. I got the John Madden bug.

They have absolutely no chance of getting any further with this until they can return to earth safely when there is a complete loss of all thrust – and they cannot.
Helicopters can autorotate, airplanes can land on runways but these multicopters can't do either – can not autorotate, and no runways exist where they plan to operate, even if when the failure happened they had enough forward speed to glide.
Demonstrate to the FAA that you've found a way to do it and you'll have a product. Until then you have to work on that one issue as your highest priority because it's a complete showstopper.

@Muzzy12
December 24, 2023 at 10:42 am
Even when this comes to fruition it doesn't matter, it's still a propeller craft. It's just a helicopter. They're like, we'll have helipads for this you can go to then use our helicopter to get to the airport. Oooook then why aren't we using a helicopter now? And you're already commuting to get to the stupid helipad. A true air taxi won't come about until we commoditize nuclear fusion and shrink those energy sources to mobile sizes, and that won't be in my lifetime (and possibly nobody's lifetime because the human race might not fix climate change in time lol)

The only company who can match Joby at the moment is lilium.
Definitely the two front runners in the eVTOL game.
Making sure the battery packs can be swapped out is crucial going forward as is a charge time of around thirty minutes.

They talk about relieving the congestion of commuting and streets, and getting to airports. To have in real effect you're talking about removing thousands of cars from these locations, and thereby putting those vehicles in the sky. That looks like big-time problems, especially around airports. We'll, it will be interesting, though I question its affordability by the masses as the corporations and government continue to push the population to a majority population of poor citizens.

This has two huge problems not talked about in the video. The days where flights will be grounded because of weather and that after every flight the eVTOL will have to recharge for an unknown amount of hours. Both of these will dramatically increase the cost of taking the service.
