The Wall Street Journal has a new two-part feature detailing what it describes as Europe’s ‘rupture’ with the United States following this week’s NATO Summit in Turkey. The Journal reports that President Trump’s tariff’s and threats to take Greenland has sparked a quote, “rebellion” amongst European leaders who are now drawing limits on so-called “flattery diplomacy.” The paper reports many leaders now view autonomy as the long-term goal,. Rather than a temporary measure, adding that even if leadership changes the era of relying on America so heavily had ended. ……..once upon a time in Australia, before the world became a cesspool of corporate greed entwined with sneaky political corruption, we too had politicians who genuinely represented "the people." No, they weren't perfect, but they understood and respected the privilege and responsibility of leadership. They created great change for the prosperity of everyday Australians. They advocated for the working class and the "underdog" and "fair pay for a fair days work", disability insurance and indigenous land rights. They had strength of character and they left lasting legacies such as universal health care, superannuation and industrial relations workers rights. Their names were Gough Whitlam, Bob Hawke, Paul Keating and Julia Gillard (may the phoenix rise from the ashes). Tim Ryan is a rare politician who encapsulates all of these things. Power to him.
