I first learned about this cult back in 97/98 when I saw the Powers Booth's dramatization on TV. I thought as intriguing as it was I was equally terrified by it. I mean this was not just another horrifying story conjured by Holllywood – this actually happened. And that made it a lot scarier. All I can say it that this tragedy is so much scarier than any horror movie. Not to mention the chilling aspect of the survivors trying to flee for their lives really built that tension a whole lot more. They never knew if they were going to make it or not. Or if any of Jones' assassins were to appear in front of them just as they turned.
And now, having learned that both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are making TV series and movie respectively about the Jonestown massacre, it'll be interesting to see how they're going to approach the tragic event.

How do they know that the airport gunmen all died from cyanide ? If they only identified/autopsied only a handful of the dead, how do they know the gunmen did not escape? The truck returned to jonestown, but would the killers have taken the cyanide ?

Oh God how I remember this, I was in my last year of high school when it hapenned. Our yearbook has so many photos of the dead people, so it would never be forgotten. I'm a "old soul" as they say. From a very young age I told myself "Dont have blind faith in anyone or anything, Religion, Politics, Spotrs etc. Just believe in your self and what your instict tells you" Its sad how many people get trapped because they need love and to belong somewhere. We need to love ourself first and listen to our inner voice like Socrates used to say. Jim Jones shot himself too much of a Shithead to take the CoolAid with poison.

I visited the People’s Temple a few times with a neighbor when I was a kid. Her family were members and I’d go from time to time. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. I was too young to remember the sermons but the faith healings and speaking in tongues was wild to me. I’d never seen anything like that at my church. Luckily my neighbors left way before Guyana was ever mentioned.
