US Strikes Iran as Tehran Hits US Bases Across Gulf | Horizons Middle East & Africa 9/2/2026
US and Iran exchange strikes as the conflict intensifies, with US forces targeting Iranian air-defense and radar systems and Tehran launching what it calls a “decisive operation” against US bases across the region, including a drone attack on a US base in Bahrain. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz.
Oil prices extend gains after the attacks, while Asian stocks decline as higher oil prices and bond yields weigh on markets. Bessent also signals US support for possible Bank of Japan action on the yen.
Australia’s economy grows 0.4% quarter-on-quarter in Q2, beating expectations and strengthening the case for higher interest rates, while New Zealand raises its benchmark rate by 25 basis points.
In technology, Nvidia is reportedly nearing a $14 billion deal for Hugging Face, Google could launch a new AI model, and Elon Musk says AI could eventually expand the global economy by 20% to 30%.
At the G20, Bessent says China was the main dissenter and blocked a joint communique over its trade surplus, while Beijing objected to language on supply chains and critical minerals.
Search teams continue looking for survivors in Nepal’s hydropower tunnels as the death toll surpasses 1,000, with no new updates reported from Tibet.
Senegal secures a $2.2 billion IMF deal as the country faces around $10 billion in annual debt-servicing needs.
Across the Gulf, resilience is reshaping a $2.1 trillion GCC investment cycle. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is pushing to improve portfolio returns, control rising costs and address project delays. Its roughly $905 billion portfolio includes Savvy Games Group, New Murabba and Riyadh Air, as the fund remains central to Vision 2030 and Saudi Arabia’s drive to diversify beyond hydrocarbons.
Saudi Arabia also raises $3.25 billion through a bond sale that attracted more than $15 billion in peak orders. Guests includes Steven Major, Tradition Dubai Global Macro Advisor, Ben Powell, Blackrock Investment Institute Chief Middle East & APAC investment strategist.
Horizons Middle East & Africa is your daily spotlight on one of the world’s fastest-growing regions. Live from Dubai, we bring you the latest global markets and analysis, plus news-making interviews, with a special focus on MEA. All that and more, as you head to the office in the Gulf, pause for lunch in Hong Kong, or start your day in London or Johannesburg.

You have to take the optimist opinions of some financial corporations with a large dose of skepticism!!
The Citi CIO is saying that China has quite a way to run. Either the Citi CIO is living in fantasy land or have become a mouthpiece of the CCP propaganda apparatus?
China housing market, which represents 30% of GDP, has crashed, the housing developers cannot repay their $ billion loans, 90% of China steel industries are operating at a loss, the owners of thousands of small businesses (shops, stores, restaurants) have spent all their savings to survive the 3 years of lookdown, the brutal opening has cost the lives of millions of Chinese.
Why Citi is so optimistic?
What are the secret agendas of Citi?

You guys are the scum of this earth.
China’s economy is tanking with the world going into a deep recession. Covid has been spreading everywhere in China with the country on the verge of war with Taiwan any day.
Chinese mega caps have all gone up between 85% and 100% since October 31st 2022 and you clowns are calling for Chinese stocks to go higher??
Why didn’t Citigroup tell investors to buy Chinese stocks on October 31st??

Yo sup U.S Bloomberg homies since I am a American Future Workforce Manufacturing Investor employee of my U.S Manufacturing Company homie. Well I have reached the minimum investment savings target of $50,000 U.S with an American Future Workforce Investment Saving Scheme arrangements between my Company Employer and the Present Elected United States Presidential Administration. Your Employer can take a very very small percentage of your living wage or salary weekly and put it away for you in a United States of America Future Workforce Savings Account and then the residing U.S Administration matches that savings rate of your Company homie. And when you have reached that Minimum Savings rate of $50,000 unless you have outstanding debts such as Student debt that must be paid of 1st from your American Future Workforce Investment Saver and then you can save and reach the Minimum Investment target yo. What to Invest in you've got $50,000 U.S and so with many other Future Workforce Employee Americans, well Invest in your Company 1st and by the way it is not your living paychecks neither that is absolutely separate from your Future Workforce Investment Saver. But Workforce Employees can only check up for American Investment Opportunities at break time okay cause it's unsafe to be doing that when you must be 100 Percent focused on your f**ken Job homie like boy until 1st break 15 minutes that is followed by half hour lunch break then final 15 minute break. Well Gee Walking along my Company's Workplace Hallway the 1st thing I see on flat-screen television is Interesting Engineering Future Technologies or Popular Mechanics but not nope Science Tech Daily that's Chinese CCP Rubbish nah not watching💩bro although it's useful to analyze on where they at yup. Cause I prefer bombarding the Hardcore CCP China Tech Companies with American Future Workforce Manufacturing Technologies they don't like that😡👍🤣I don't don't give 2 fux🖕😘what China🇨🇳thinks Mister Marshmallow🍡Absolutely Narrow🤤and Jello🍨have a day🌈🤗bud💚💯🌎☝💪🥊🇺🇲🦅🪖👊😎.
