Aaron Sorkin wasn’t planning to make another movie about Facebook — until he met a whistleblower whose story he felt compelled to tell. In an expansive conversation with Nicolle Wallace, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning writer and director discusses his new film, The Social Reckoning, and the extraordinary power Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook wield over nearly 3 billion people — and the costly decisions that have shaped the platform’s impact on our lives, our politics and our democracy.
A follow-up to 2010’s The Social Network, Sorkin’s new film examines Facebook in the age of Trump, telling the story of whistleblower Frances Haugen’s decision to expose internal documents detailing misinformation and potential harms, while exploring an older Zuckerberg confronting the consequences of the technology he created. Sorkin explains why he chose to release the film ahead of the midterm elections and why he believes there is still room for optimism — if we are willing to act.
Wallace and Sorkin explore Zuckerberg’s immense influence, the decisions surrounding Facebook on January 6, the people inside the company who knew what was happening and remained silent, and why Wallace sees Zuckerberg as “bubble wrapped from reality.” They discuss the complicated empathy the film invites audiences to feel for Zuckerberg — and how that empathy can coexist with accountability for decisions that affect billions. Sorkin also shares the story of Zuckerberg’s former consigliere and their falling out, his reaction to Jeremy Strong’s portrayal of Zuckerberg (whom Sorkin calls “the best American actor under 50 years old”), and Facebook’s efforts to obtain the film’s script before its release. We have the government we've deserved, just like the Afghan people. When you let people operate behind closed doors. You get the outcomes they decided. Not what is best for the citizens. But what is best for them and their families and associates. They don't believe in democracy. What they believe in is the acquisition of "money and power". How much evidence of frauds to believe??? There's no way to find after how many months, bleach cleaned up, and not allowed evidence to be viewed, witnesses were threatened, paid to be silenced. Judges, lawyers were and are still paid off to be silenced. The only fake news media are spreading lies to the public they pretend to serve.

Former member of the Army here. There are more than legal issues here, allow me to explain. EVERY PERSON that is employed by the federal government has to swear an oath to protect the constitution of the United States and the people of the nation. Violating this oath brings with it the option of bringing charges of treason or seditious acts. If these politicians where members of the military they would have already been arrested and placed in solitary confinement.
Just an FYI: this is the playbook Hitler used in Germany in the 1930's to seize power. We all know where that went. The modern American GOP is nothing more than the modern Nazi party or so the GERMANS SAY!

That's been obvious for some time, the same warning others like me have been advocating, but it's good that Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney is amplifying that message. More Americans need to understand this.
The constant lies, denials, deceits, delusions, gaslighting, dog-whistles, crackpot conspiracy theories, projectionism, Whataboutism, bogus victimhood, and hypocrisy of Republicans is disgusting and alarming. The Republican cult has poisoned itself with its own propaganda, choosing to live in a dystopian fascist Orwellian fantasy world. The Republican cult has been radicalized to such extent that it poses a clear and present danger to our society, our democracy, our country, and the world.
Republicans have been programmed into a mindless fascist partisan cult that is unhinged, delusional and evil. And it's extremely dangerous to our security, to our democracy, and to our country. They're essentially a domestic terrorist group, and we should be targeting the leaders of that group with the same vigor and determination we would a foreign terrorist group attacking our country. Don't know of a time since the Civil War when our nation has been at greater peril, and we need to recognize that, acknowledge it, and act upon it accordingly.

Why has Traitor Trump not been charged yet by the DOJ? That's what a lot of people are wondering! Not just prosecution of Trump, but all his accomplices, too! Obstruction charges outlined in the Mueller Report, the Ukraine extortion racket, inciting an insurrection, sedition, and federal election interference. The evidence is all in plain sight, where are the indictments, the arrests? Our democracy hangs in the balance; this is no time to play nice, there is no time to waste! The DOJ shouldn't be worried about appearances, either, because it's a matter of impartially enforcing the law and not setting bad precedent that encourages future lawlessness and authoritarianism by the Executive Branch. And because justice matters.
