Snoop Talks Favorite Songs, 2Pac’s Politics and “Grammy ashtray” with music obsessive Ari Melber

Published

on

Snoop Dogg reflects on his career, life, goals, music and politics at 50 years old, sitting in his Inglewood studios with MSNBC anchor Ari Melber for this extensive interview. Snoop discusses his new creative ventures with Def Jam, which grew out of his discussions with Lucian Grainge; advising newer artists like Benny the Butcher; recent music projects including “The Algorithm” and collaborating with Ice Cube, E40 and Too $hort in Mount Westmore; and his reflections on his history and relationships, including Snoop’s live reactions to classic videos from the archive dating back to the early 1990s. Snoop and Melber also discuss Tupac’s legacy and politics, as Snoop recounts Pac’s incisive, sometimes prophetic social critiques that apply today, and notes his revolutionary upbringing — facing a “system that’s designed to bring the Black man down because… he was a Black Panther.” On today’s politics, Snoop says Donald Trump reflects America and its problems, while criticizing Biden as dishonest. Snoop also pairs some of his favorite songs for the right life moments, and jokes about netting 17 Grammy nominations without ever winning the coveted music award, saying “I really want one now, so I can make it an ashtray for taking so long.” This in-depth discussion is the newest installment of “Mavericks with Ari Melber,” a series of interviews with artists, musicians and cultural icons. "Trump is America". "Biden is a lier". When first said, I assumed Snoop was referring to where his political support is. Then I thought, from where my opinions and views of the two, I don't totally disagree. I would have loved for Ari to have dug a little deeper with that one. My personal view is, Biden loves to say, "this isn't who we are". What Trump does and says, shows exactly who we/they are. So yes. Biden is a lier, and Trumps shows it every chance he gets. This is why there are Independents like me. Neither of them are great for America, but one is absolutely a great danger for the entire world.

Snoop talks like he is rapping all the time. He is more busy at 50 than ever. Ari loves rappers. Luv his thanking speech: he was proud and confident. He is sooooo Fcking smooth! Sad-he hates Biden. Hmmm what’s would he say about Kanye now? How can he likes Trump when all he said is hate and division? Easier to hate, but it’s harder to love. Great interview!

Snoop’s a seasoned rapper. My goodness he hangs with Martha Stewart whose life has been anything but privileged. Glad he embraces the younger rappers from an “I’ve been there” experience. This is God’s plan for your life, Ari. Sit down, know their story from your own personal interest and allow Snoop to tell his story. Beautiful thing!

Nicolle and Aaron Sorkin: This is Trump’s ‘ultimate mind f***’

Published

on

By

Aaron Sorkin wasn’t planning to make another movie about Facebook — until he met a whistleblower whose story he felt compelled to tell. In an expansive conversation with Nicolle Wallace, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning writer and director discusses his new film, The Social Reckoning, and the extraordinary power Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook wield over nearly 3 billion people — and the costly decisions that have shaped the platform’s impact on our lives, our politics and our democracy.
A follow-up to 2010’s The Social Network, Sorkin’s new film examines Facebook in the age of Trump, telling the story of whistleblower Frances Haugen’s decision to expose internal documents detailing misinformation and potential harms, while exploring an older Zuckerberg confronting the consequences of the technology he created. Sorkin explains why he chose to release the film ahead of the midterm elections and why he believes there is still room for optimism — if we are willing to act.

Wallace and Sorkin explore Zuckerberg’s immense influence, the decisions surrounding Facebook on January 6, the people inside the company who knew what was happening and remained silent, and why Wallace sees Zuckerberg as “bubble wrapped from reality.” They discuss the complicated empathy the film invites audiences to feel for Zuckerberg — and how that empathy can coexist with accountability for decisions that affect billions. Sorkin also shares the story of Zuckerberg’s former consigliere and their falling out, his reaction to Jeremy Strong’s portrayal of Zuckerberg (whom Sorkin calls “the best American actor under 50 years old”), and Facebook’s efforts to obtain the film’s script before its release. He reveals how the filmmakers prepared for potential legal challenges, including the threat of a lawsuit.

The conversation also examines Trump’s relationship with Zuckerberg, the former president’s attacks on the media despite his apparent appetite for attention from credible news organizations, and the essential role investigative journalism plays in holding powerful people and institutions accountable. Wallace and Sorkin discuss why Congress and the law continue to lag behind rapidly advancing technology, the consequences of leaving that power unchecked, and why the stakes for democracy could hardly be higher.

And in a moment that connects Sorkin’s celebrated work across generations, the conversation turns to A Few Good Men, Hegseth’s “illegal order” and the enduring importance of questioning authority. Wallace, who was inspired by Allison Janney’s portrayal of White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg on The West Wing to imagine a future for herself in the White House, joins Sorkin in reflecting on the responsibilities of the press, the dangers of unchecked power and the choices that define our political moment.

From Facebook’s influence over billions of lives to Trump, whistleblowers, investigative journalism and the future of American democracy, Sorkin’s message is clear: We need to take democracy more seriously.
