Iran War: Bessent Sanctions Plan Threatens US-China Tensions | Daybreak Europe 8/25/2026
Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we’ll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s threat to unleash an “economic D-Day” against Iran risks setting the US on a collision course with China, its main trading partner. Bessent promised an “economic onslaught against Iran’s financial connections around the globe” as President Donald Trump tries to wind down his unpopular war in the Middle East.
US stock-index futures gained as pressure on technology shares eased, signaling tentative optimism ahead of key earnings this week that will test confidence in the artificial intelligence trade. Bitcoin advanced to a three-month high.
And Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume prepared to confront workers over his plans to radically shrink the carmaker, a test of his ability to push through sweeping changes at speed.

Putin Moves to Escalate War in Ukraine, Nvidia Fuels Faith in AI Boom | Opening Trade 8/27/2026
Russia is preparing to escalate attacks on Ukraine after concluding that negotiations for a peace deal have reached a dead end, according to three people close to the Kremlin.
For now, Russia is weighing an intensification of powerful conventional ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv, including the center of the capital, and infrastructure targets in other Ukrainian cities, the people said, asking not to be identified because the matter is sensitive.
Nvidia, the chipmaker at the heart of the artificial intelligence boom, gave a bullish sales outlook for fiscal 2028, easing concerns that AI spending is poised to lose momentum.
The Opening Trade has everything you need to know as markets open across Europe. With analysis you won’t find anywhere else, we break down the biggest stories of the day and speak to top guests who have skin in the game. Hosted by Anna Edwards, Guy Johnson and Tom Mackenzie.

Well this is great that Rodger was part of that group back in the mid to late 1990s when we had a balanced budget and we started paying down the debt that most all of us conveniently forgot so we must balance the federal budget again and start paying on the national debt just like in the late 1990s even if it means putting people like Rodger and the others involved to work as part of a group on that studying and replicating those balanced budgets of the late 1990s the federal government must balance its budget and start paying down its debt just like all

How's the GDP if you remove the Boeing Orders and this year's $1.7 Trillion in Deficit Spending? Was inflation accounted for in the GDP? Does this equate to Negative GDP? The most American small business failures in history! Fake cooked numbers, Monthly "Revisions" on most data points, Lowest Trade & highest Consumer CC debt levels, record homelessness, rising retail crime, and a country headed into supporting three war fronts (Ukraine, Israel, and next the South China Sea). We are in trouble with uncontrollable spending and $33.6 Trillion dollars in national debts and unending bi-partisan backed trillion-dollar deficits.
