Apple Car: Here’s What We Know So Far
Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world, and it could become massively more valuable if it can make a splash in cars. The past six years of speculation around the so-called Apple Car have been a roller coaster. First Apple was reportedly building a car. Then the company wasn’t building a car, just the guts of a vehicle. Most recently, sources told CNBC that Apple will manufacture an autonomous car with Hyundai and Kia in Georgia. Now that might be out, too.
Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world, and it could become massively more valuable if it can make a splash in cars – the global auto and mobility market is worth about $10 trillion compared with the $715 billion smartphone market, according to Mordor Intelligence.
Apple did not respond to a request for comment.

Consumer electronics retailer Best Buy is testing out a new format as it tries to steady the business and boost sales growth. It’s opening new, smaller-scale stores this summer in markets about half the scale of its traditional locations. CNBC’s Laya Neelakandan spoke exclusively with incoming CEO Jason Bonfig about his plans for the concept.

An agent that spins up thousands of other agents can turn a $20 task into a $50,000 one, and companies are starting to scale into bankruptcy. The fight now isn’t over how smart these systems are. AI’s Control Problem: Agents, Costs And Robots

America has a chip strategy for AI. It doesn’t have an open-source one.
Washington spent billions protecting the hardware layer — the CHIPS Act, a stake in Intel, export controls on Nvidia. But the models the world actually builds on are increasingly coming out of China: DeepSeek, Z.ai’s GLM, Moonshot’s Kimi. Open weights can be downloaded, customized and run on your own servers, and are often cheaper.
Now the pressure is coming from inside American tech. Jensen Huang used his first post on X to publish an open letter urging Washington to treat open-weight AI as a strategic asset — co-signed by some of the biggest AI players, with Anthropic the major holdout.
Meanwhile enterprises are asking a harder question: who owns what the AI learns about your business? Deirdre Bosa tackles the layer of the AI stack Washington isn’t funding.

Even AMAZON attempted it through Rivian, and now gave up and became associated with Fiat.
On the other hand, an APPLE car would be the safest on the road, since APPLE products are the most boring ones, and the driver for sure wouldn't get distracted with the computer screens.

They can't even make 100% glitch-proof smartphones, and they want us to put our lives into their computers…? Oh hell no, I trust my own brain and hands until we live in an era where no laptop/smartphone struggles to open a PPT or play a video or even update right. Go an make a PC or smartphone OS that won't glitch at all – then we'll consider if your car's safe.

Autonomous driving is NOT going to work. We don't even have robots that flip hamburgers. I'm all for tech but we are at least two decades away from self-driving cars. For autonomous driving to work, it must work for the stupidest and most careless among us, like when some drunk teenager passes out on Muholland Drive. The hyperbole in the space is unrelenting. Stop putting the cart before the horse. How about making a simple, reliable, electric car for the masses with 400 miles of range and a 20 minute 0 – 100% recharge time? Oh no, we can't do that… chh.

Having a screen in a vehicle is a great idea, what we want is ads flashing in your face while you drive thinking autopilot is good enough to do everything for you in a car with batteries that add extra weight.

I think Apple biggest issue or challenge will be actually making a sustainable profitable market. They can actually come up with smart screen as their main market selling point. After seeing all these lovely shots of 3D concepts it’s going to be a real anticlimax when people see the actual $30,000 Apple entry level model (basically a Mobility Scooter – with one of those flags but in proprietary carbon fibre that’s been specially treated to make it white). The ‘actual’ Apple Car worth driving (fully optioned – ie it comes with an actual engine) will be the $20 Million Dollar version.
How many times they will change the actual recharge port each year is anyone’s guess.
Comes in any colour as long as it’s White or the twice as expensive Space Grey option
…later on in the year you will be able to get the Red (AIDS) version
