Land prospectors are investing billions of dollars in a race to acquire rural farmland that they hope can be turned into data centers or other AI infrastructure. The buildout has sparked debate in communities across the country as residents raise concerns and local governments weigh how to regulate the technology. CNBC went to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and Boise, Idaho to talk to land owners fielding repeated offers to sell and developers hoping to cash in on the AI boom.
