SUVs and pickups have really taken over the US car market. But with average vehicle prices so high, some automakers are still selling healthy numbers of sedans and other low-roofed passenger cars. Kia, Toyota, and Volkswagen, among others have kept sedans in the market, and EVs like the Tesla Model 3 are popular. Detroit automakers Ford and GM have hinted they might want back in.

Meta has launched Muse Spark, its most powerful AI model yet and the first major product from Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang’s newly formed Meta Superintelligence Lab. The release comes as the company ramps capital expenditures to as much as $135 billion this year, nearly double last year’s spend, raising the stakes for every product that emerges from Wang’s lab. Unlike Meta’s previous open-source Llama models, Muse Spark will be proprietary, with plans to eventually offer paid API access, opening a potential new revenue stream. Meta says larger, more capable models are already in development and that Muse Spark is just the foundation on the road to what Zuckerberg and Wang call “personal superintelligence.” CNBC’s Julia Boorstin explores why this launch is such a big deal for Meta.

5:36 Doesn't make sense. How can Apple be insulated from chip shortage if they only design their own chips? They still have to get them manufactured from TSMC though. Chip shortage affected all the chip fabs.

Apple has become the company for the rich and rich only. I went to the Hackintosh route some years ago. I have an Intel machine (Hackintoosh) that has 40TB of storage and a decent video card, all for $5000. It does use more electricity and the footprint is larger. However, I can get a decent 4TB nvme storage chip for $200, and if it goes bad I can easily replace it. The same storage from Apple would cost $2000 and if it went bad, you would have to replace the motherboard as well; therefore you might as well buy a new computer. BTW…if you didn't have a full backup, neither Apple, the NSA, FBI, or a storage rescue company could retrieve your data.
I'm looking forward to buying a SnapDragon ARM based PC that will be able to emulate MacOS or just rum windows or some form of UNIX/LINUX. Frankly, I don't give a damn if Apple has great hardware/software, if I can't afford it. There are many old Intel based Macs that are 10 years old and running just fine. The new Mx series based computers from Apple won't make it past the five year mark, especially if you bought them with 8GB memory and 256 GB storage.
An analogy is Super Cars versus a Tesla. Yes the Bugatti is a great car ($3,000,000) but not that much difference versus a Tesla Model 3 ($30,000). In this example the Bugatti is the Macintosh and a Tesla is the PC. Yes Windows is clunkier and Linux can be too technical at times, but it sure makes a lot of sense for most people.
Apple, you might want to learn from Tesla, as their manufacturing processes make a better and cheaper car to buy with each iteration. Of course Apple will never do this, as they think like Sony with the BetaMax. How well did that work out for Sony?

What I got from this interview is that in order for Apple to build a great product they have to own the end to end process of the product. So I see Apple coming out with an iPhone cellular plan to compete with Verizon and stuff. Their own WiFi routers, their own version of Bluetooth, etc…

גוגל תפתח מחשב על שמסוגל לבצע 10 פעולות בפעולה אחת גם אפל לאייפון לפעולה מורכבת שמבצעת עד 10 פעולות וכן GPU זה תוכנה לא פיזיקה או חומרה זו שפת מחשב. עם הרבה פחות RAM שכן מדובר בעשרות פעולות. או עבודה עם כלל הSoC בפעולה אחת ומהר יותר טים. ומהר יותר.

אפל תייצר DRAM עםסיביות זיכרון שמסוגלות לבצע כמה פעלות ואפילו מאות ולא 1 ל1 אלא 6 או 4 ל1 בקילר רעיון טים זה הדבר הבא טים לכל מכשיריה. גם לאפלקציות ולתהליכים בOS כמו תהליכים במסך ובתוכנה. תמציאו שם מוסרי. עם שבב 128 ביט לאייפון בפטנט.

אפל תפתח שבב RAM וזיכרון שמקטין את צריכת הCPU וGPU וסלולר בתהילוך מהRAM ועוד באייפון ובאפל ווטש לפחות RAM ומהיר בהרבה בתהליך של הRAM לSoC בתהליך בין הRAM לCPU וGPU בשפה חדשה עם Swift. זה יכול להאיץ את הRAM בעוד 50% עד פי 2 רק ברמת התיהלוך. אולי FRAM לאייפון 16 גם ברגיל, תקימו מפעלים לכך תוך כדאי. זה אפשרי. גם למצלמה וGPU וששב AI וסלולר.

טים אפל תרכוש חברות תוכנה מעולות שיאיצו איכות צליל ומוסיקה במגוון דרכים. זה קריטי זה מה שגרם לאפל להיכשל בהתחלה מול אנדרואיד ותגייס עובדים. גם עבור אפלקציות כמו נטפליקס ואמאזון פריים.

אפל תרכוש חברות תוכנה מעולות שיאיצו את הGPU ומשחקים ומצלמה. ברעיון חשוב. לאייפון 16. בטכנולוגיית ARM. ותמציאו פיצ'רים חדשים לצילום כתוצאה באייפון 16 ובמק עם שמות מעולים ומוסריים לצילום באייפון. גם לצילום בלילה ותשיגו יותר מהנדסים מאינטל וסוני למצלמה.

You know after working in industrial engineering designing fulfillment centers for amazon I learned that these tech companies can do amazing things. But because they use these open office layouts you need more people than I think would be required if you had better designed office space. An working from home is even worse for productivity as can be measured by declines in patents from any org that has tried it.
Apple moved to this open office layout with there new tech hq, and they honestly haven’t done anything but incremental improvements since. Apparently many employees hatted the new office set up.
We don’t have enough engineers and tech trained people to waist 5,000 engineers to do what 2,000 could do with better designed office layouts. But because tech companies are so monopolistic by nature, given the scale of Talent and Ip that is required, this is a hard problem to solve.
Hoarding all these 130 to 160 IQ people into these open office spaces where your constantly confronted with distractions is a terrible waist of talent. It can be hard to do any real work in that kind of environment.
So I don’t doubt that Apple is an amazing company and more so at product creation vs Amazon. They were also smart not to over expand during the pandemic like Amazon. But we waist a large portion of the talent we have even at a company as innovative as this.
I think SpaceX has a much better semi open office design where the managers can still see what everyone is doing. At least from the older vids I saw from the early to mid 2010’s. It is still open so managers see over them to see what people are doing. But there turned to be blocked off into sections of four cubicles. And the cubical walls extend up enough that when you sit down you get some privacy to be able to concentrate. I think Elon is one of the rare people who have had experiences with leading organizations from small size to very large that he gets how to balance creative work space collaboration with providing an environment where people can still concentrate to do work. This layout is still manageable by leadership while not growing to be very overstaffed with bs jobs.
When he bought Twitter I was not surprised that he was able to keep the company going with 1/5th the staff. Apple could probably find ways to dramatically increase productivity of there engineers by simply just redesigning the office spaces.

Apple is famously quiet. At times they’re accused of lagging their competition. As this interview touched on, their efforts in generative AI being the most recent criticism. This great interview should dispel and quiet some of the critics.
