Anand Giridharadas chronicled this deadly chapter in American history and its aftermath in his latest book Man in the Mirror. He dissects the divisions that have been spreading in the country in this – as he calls it – age of estrangement. “In a case about dehumanization,” he says. “I wanted to humanize everybody. ”
