I really wanted to love her show. I had enjoyed her talents as yet another great Seth Meyers person, in the likes of Amber, Jennifer, Shoemaker and the other talented writers. Seth himself is almost never "in character" and that should say something. Authenticity was her #1 problem. On SNL I always found a super stark dividing line between being an attention-grabbing actor and a very talented writer/producer and decided she's better off writing & directing segments than performing in them. She's definitely worthy of a role in the forefront of the industry but she's as close to a Gilbert Gottfried character than I can think of … and it's a tough sell. She's been in Key & Peele sketches and other things, she's obviously a great performer and actor. Calling her own shots though? No not quite ready. I was as "on board" to adore her as I could be and was constantly irritated at the fake voice, fake stupidity, fake vapidness and lack of-self-awareness. She's way smarter than that. Sometimes the league's Heavy Hitters get kicked to the minor leagues to find their eventual footing. She certainly has the raw talent to pull this off in the long run. If I were her I'd be begging Netflix to take her older specials down and give her a re-do, minus the fake voice, minus the slurred words, minus the vapid ditz approach, we all know she's smarter than that. To watch someone so talented, it's so cringeworthily an act in an otherwise pristine environment that I wonder how it got approved in the first place after a few screen tests.
