Why Is Google Struggling In Russia? Yandex
While Google has about 90% of the global market share for internet search, it is lagging behind in Russia, where the homegrown company Yandex has captured 55% of the market. Yandex maintains its dominance due to its superior Russian language search capabilities, its wide array of services beyond search, and the company’s willingness to comply with the country’s often restrictive local laws.
In all corners of the world, if you’re looking to do an internet search, chances are high that Google is your go-to. But Google’s domination hasn’t extended everywhere, and Russia is one of the few countries where it lags behind. Here, 55% of the market belongs to the homegrown company Yandex.
Like Google, Yandex is so much more than a search engine. It offers email, cloud, and online payment services, streaming music, news aggregatio, and live traffic maps. Yandex.Taxi merged with Uber last year, and it is testing self-driving cars.
Basically, Yandex sure sounds a lot like Google. So why do the majority of Russia’s 144.5 million citizens actually prefer it?

All we hear is how bad Russia is and they are destroying the world. That being said, if Russia is that bad why does the U.S. pay Russia "100-billion dollars" each year for Uranium? American has "tons "of uranium and but the present administration will not allow us to mine it. Is there some "other" reason that the U.S. would rather pay to help make the Russian Army stronger?

Can't help but scoff at the idea that western tech companies are preoccupied with promoting free speech, an illusion that persists despite the evidence to the contrary our everyday reality provides.

I don't understand what it is, but if there is something about plagiarism, etc., then this is a default, understand, most of the so-called "American brands" are created by other countries, and America simply bought them!

its not just Russia, google is starting to struggle all over the world because Yandex is taking over the english world and google is totally to blame: By mass censorship and by spreading propaganda of a certain demecratic party…. People are losing faith in Google, this includes myself a Canadian. I stopped using google because i got spammed with US political commercials during their election… This crap does not concern me, im not a US citizen! So i looked for an alternative that is not bing not yahoo and not google because they all do the same crap. Thats how i found Yandex and best part is they dont try to advertise any politics not even Russian ones unless i look specifically for it. THIS IS GREAT! I dont know Russian and its fine.
–
Also i plan on quiting YouTube for vimeo to get away from those crapolitics.

The Google I know will censor and make it difficult to find websites and articles that don't fit their agenda. I don't trust Google at all, and to hear you say that Google is a fighter of freedom is quite baffling.
