“What Would You Do?” (WWYD?) explores the varying answers with the help of hidden cameras capturing individuals who have been placed within seemingly everyday situation that quickly go ary. The individuals on this hidden camera show are forced to make tough calls when directly faced with situations of racism, violence, hate crimes, and other hot button cultural issues. Catch John Quinones reporting on these individuals as they make split-second decisions to intervene or mind their own business.

“What Would You Do?” airs Friday nights at 9|8c on ABC.

What Would You Do? (WWYD) is a hidden camera show, hosted by ABC News correspondent John Quinones, in which unknowing bystanders are placed in uncomfortable, and often compromising real world scenarios in public. WWYD’s hidden cameras focus on the average person’s responses and reactions to these issues of social responsibility. Topics such as gay couples being affectionate in public, date rape, racism and racial profiling, interracial couples, abusive parents, drunk driving, and harassment of the homeless are touched upon in this series.

What would YOU do? Would you choose to intervene in these situations? Watch and join the discussion in the comments.

I cried watching this. So many kids in the system that go through worse than this behind closed doors have no one to speak up for them and stop the abuse. I wish I was able to adopt kids. But there also are good people who adopt kids and give them an amazing life they wouldn’t have had.

Some of these just seem too ridiculous and over the top….It would have more impact if it was a little more realistic.

So many people will tell you “mind your own business it has nothing to do with you” this is not something I could sit and watch. I’m making a scene. Let somebody call the cops I would not care. This stuff HAPPENS. to INNOCENT CHILDREN. who will grow up thinking they are less of a person and end up going down bad paths when all they needed was to have someone, anyone show them they matter and to make them feel loved. I absolutely hate people who do it for the wrong reasons. Another situation I saw once was a woman with two kids. It was freezing. It was a toddler and maybe a preschooler. They had short sleeves on and barefoot in Walmart checking out back when Walmart was open all hours it was almost 2am. The lady behind the woman started cursing her out threatening to call CPS wouldn’t let the other lady get an word in And I Mean this lady really handed it to her and the woman just busted out crying. Turns out, she was a foster mom that picked these kids up after a house fire and the parents were in the hospital. What they had on was all they had and the woman didn’t have anything that fit so she took them at almost 2am to buy them clothes that fit them and fit them well. 🥺 I felt so bad for that lady. And the lady cursing her out that walked off to a different line without even an I’m sorry. All I could tell her was she was an absolutely wonderful woman for what she was doing.

    May I share a story w/ y’all???

If so, gather round. Here goes:

I’m married now (for the second time, since 6/2022), but for several years, I was a single dad to three adopted kids:
    —A boy and girl—twins—from Ukraine (b. 1993)
    —A younger boy from Poland (b. 1995).
All three are all grown up now, and doing extremely well in life (none married yet, but all in steady relationships 💚💛💙). Anyway…

One evening, my kids and my then-GF/now wife went out to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner. Seated not too far from us were a couple kids who went to the same school my daughter’s a teacher at (her and her brothers’ alma mater, a private school). At dinner with them was—anyone?…anyone??—a…foster kid!!

My daughter—Izzy—goes over to the other table, to say “Hi!” to the kids and their parents. Seated w/ the family at the table is a kid not related to the family, and, well, kinda “outta place”. The dad says they’re looking out for a friend’s kid, because the parents “couldn’t find a decent babysitter”. Believing everything’s okay, Izzy comes back to our table, like everything’s normal.

A few minutes later, the mom starts yelling at their “charge”, and the dad threatens to take the kid back out to the car and leave [him] there while everybody else eats.
Having been in the US Marine Corps for 15 yrs, w/ the Dept. of Defense for 10, was w/ Security for the Disneyland Resort for 5 (a fun job I had while transitioning back from military to civilian life), and the ILWU/Longshoremen for 13, there’s that instinct of helping people while still…taking charge when warranted. My daughter, having dealt w/ juvenile affairs both inside AND out of the classroom, as well as following that moral compass I set for her and her brothers, immediately intervened (she had had dealings w/ both, adopted AND foster children (NOTE: I learned from a cousin/now-sister, that I was adopted out to another family member, back in 2019!!!)!!!

My GF/now-wife, who is the acting President of her company, backed me and Izzy up, threatening to notify the authorities on the grounds of—
    —child abuse and neglect,
—misuse of state/federal financial resources meant for other than what they were allocated for,
    —endangerment of a minor.

We immediately invited the foster kid to come sit at our table, and we let [him] have whatever [he] wanted. My boys—Arty (a speech-impaired ADA individual and a lawyer) and Lazzy (a video game designer AND a sensitivity counselor w/ the local police department), got in touch w/ their PD and child welfare service contacts, while Izzy, Lorelei (my GF/wife) and I questioned the [boy] about his living situation. The kids from my kids’ school verified their foster sibling’s story.

The kid sat with us and had dinner while we waited for the proper authorities to come and intervene. The CWF rep granted us temporary custody until a proper hearing and investigation could be conducted. Eventually, the DA and CWF agreed not to press charges or take legal action, provided the following was resolved:
    1.) Any misused funding was to be reinstated back to the child for whom it was meant;
    2.) The [foster] parents would seek counseling as well as psychiatric assessments as to their fitness to continue to be parental figures;
3.) The [biological] children would be observed by CWF as well as a court-assigned pediatric psychologist.

Eventually, universal reconciliation was achieved, and after convincing their charge that they were truly sorry for any hardships they might’ve placed upon [him], and with support from their biological children, the foster kid was adopted by the family. The child was even granted a scholarship, so [he] could go to the same school as his adoptive siblings.

At a annual teachers’ convention and awards dinner, in addition to a Teacher of the Year Award, Izzy also received accolades for:
    —Exceptional Services Outside the Classroom,
—Role Model for the Community’s Youth, and…
—Merit of Exceptional Conduct and Professionalism.

At a local law enforcement dinner/awards ceremony, Lazzy received the following commendations:
    —Community Outreach Citizens Award,
—Professional Assistance to Municipal Law Enforcement,
    AND…
—Honorary Officer of the Peace (Badge and CCW Permit).

At a lawyers’ dinner awards meeting, Arty was presented with:
—Merit for the Rendering of Pro Bono Legal Services in the Protection and Preservation of Human Rights,
—Recognition for Maintaining Ethical and Moral Conduct as Pertains to a Practitioner of the Legal Profession, and…
—ADA Recognition and Commendation for Execution of Professional and Moral Conduct when dealing with a Crisis Situation.

As for my now-wife and I:
We’ve both received more than our fair share of awards, merits, commendations and recognitions.

The REAL rewards for ME are:
1.) Seeing what my kids have grown up to become (there’s an old Mandalorian proverb:
“Nobody cares who your father was, or where you come from; only the father you will be, and where you are going.”),

2.) Not only am I happily married NOW, but I’m still VERY good friends w/ my ex- and her husband (a fellow USMC officer and friend),

3.) I’m godfather to my ex-wife’s son and twin daughters (all three also all grown up and prospering),

4.) I’ve lived a good life thus far. In addition to three younger brothers and two younger sisters, I keep in touch regularly w/ my now-sister as well as two half-brothers and two half-sisters I learned we had four yrs ago…

    And finally…

5.) I have several nephews and nieces, many all grown up, but some still in adolescence. All of them look to me—their “eccentric, middle-aged, favorite uncle”—for Guidance and Wisdom…

    Peace ☮️ Out…
    God Bless…(ESPECIALLY the “outcasts”!!!)…

…and Prosperity to ALL in 2024 and beyond…❤️🤍💛💙

If you want to volunteer in the foster care system, there are some rules you have to follow as well. You don't dare judge someone by the color of their skin, you don't treat your foster children like trash. If you are on a budget, you don't shift the budget to where ever you want. You budget your dollars for every foster child on your list!
