I don't agree with JK on that. There are billions of people out there, therefore the competition is immense, and only the extremely talented produce something that "contributes" to society in a significant way like JK has with her books. Not only that, even if you have the qualities, you need luck. Life can be great or torturous or everything in between. It's not about you per se, it's about a whole host of factors that are often completely outside your control. I say take care of your body and mind. Without that in order, you are going to have a miserable time, and you can forget about contributing…as it's all about survival then. So, NO, I strongly disagree with JK on that. Her children should be true to themselves and not have their lives dictated to by her mother, no matter who she is. Having a parent disappointed in their children for not living up to their expectations is a pointless source of misery.

I don't really like the book. No no I'm not judging this book based on Harry Potter Series, actually I'm not a fan of Harry Potter int he first place lol.

Casual Vacancy has too many characters and every character has a bunch of stories to tell, this branching strategy is enticing at first but as the story goes on everything just gets entangled and nothing new emerges, very much like a detailed Twitter board of people's lives in Pragford. No climax, no plot twists and the only relief is that someone died in the end which removed a huge stone off my chest.

If it wasn't written by JK Rowling, I wouldn't even bother to finish it after reading the first two chapters.

I felt so boring in the beginning that i was thinking when this will be over. But in the Last i was crying. Krystal weedon was not good girl but she wanted to be a good girl, thats why i liked the character. She only wanted a clean house in Pagford, and a Telivision.

its so unfair to rowling that potter fans are giving bad reviews to her new book expecting it to be somewhat close to the HP series. I am a die hard fan of harry potter i grew up with HARRY RON and HERMIONE and harry potter has ended. We need to accept the fact and enjoy the new books of JK rowling.

Ugh, it's SO SO good! Stupid simple-brained Potter fans rating this book poorly on Amazon because they expected it to be the 8th Potter novel. So annoying. The reviews are so off-base and unfair. I say this as a Potter fan who bought this book KNOWING it wasn't meant to be ANYTHING like the Potter novels.

Would Rowling be good at non-fantasy writing? I remember the 1st chapter to Goblet of Fire, "The Riddle House", where it was non-fantasy-related up until the midnight Riddle House commotion, and that was actually really good, too!

I look forward to the new book!

Ukraine strikes spark Russian fuel crisis across 50 regions

Almost all of Russia’s 83 regions are seeing gasoline shortages or reported disruptions to supply, according to a CNN analysis, with many gas stations imposing rationing as the Russian government races to get ahead of a ferocious campaign of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting its refineries.

The fuel crisis, which escalated first in Russian-controlled Crimea and prompted a state of emergency and a full ban on fuel sales to ordinary people on June 21, is now reaching across Russia’s 11 time zones.

CNN’s Clare Sebastian details the frustration at the pump in Russia, and CNN’s Kristie Lu Stout speaks with the head of Chatham House Ukraine Forum, Orysia Lutsevych, about the possible decay of Russia’s energy superpower status.

Also, CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten looks at Russian President Vladimir Putin’s approval among Russian citizens and sagging public support of President Trump’s ability to handle the Ukraine war.

Three-time US Olympian David Hearn told CNN that police arrested him Friday after he said he touched a flap of blue material partially detached from the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Hearn, who says he has a background in material science, told CNN he checked it out following a bike ride after reading reports of algae in the water and paint or sealant peeling off the bottom.

Hearn’s attorney Norm Eisen speaks with CNN’s Anderson Cooper about what he calls “a meritless prosecution.” Also, The Atlantic staff writer Matt Viser has details about the type of algae plaguing the Reflecting Pool, and political analysts Scott Jennings and Karen Finney discuss the controversy.

350K+ face risk of deportation after Trump’s Supreme Court win

Published

Until Thursday morning, hundreds of thousands of Haitians were legally living and working in the United States, along with thousands of Syrians. Now, their work permits are set to expire and their deportation protections will be terminated, throwing them in legal limbo.

The abrupt change in fate stems from the Supreme Court decision which found that the Department of Homeland Security had broad discretion in determining when to extend or terminate a form of humanitarian relief known as Temporary Protected Status.
