Biden would be the first President since Nixon who had experience as a US Senator. He has the potential to have a "hands on" approach of dealing with the Congress similar to LBJ or Ford, both of whom had long-tenure in the Congress.

This discussion about Biden's amiable relationship with the senate assumes compromise might be possible. BUT the real question is whether mitch will let ANYTHING through – or will he simply block all legislation initiated by the Dems, as he has been doing for the last 12 years. This is why it is soooo important for the Dems to win in the runoffs in Georgia. If Mcconnell is in charge, there will be nothing to compromise on because NOTHING is going to get through.

Georgia, this is your moment to shine upon America. Don't let Moscow MITCH and his senate Republicans screw this nation anymore. There are couple of runoff election in January and only you, Georgians, can deny mitch more tyranny. May the force be with you.. Don't be afraid.

Collins has a +60,000 vote lead with +142,000 still to be counted, so how is she the winner? is it a county thing? Everyone who just voted for Biden, but then voted for a GOP Senate essentially voted for 4 more years of gridlock. The two major pieces of Legislation to come out in the past 2 presidencies were both passed when the same party held the Congress & WH. Traditionally, centrists won't vote for one party down the ballot, they will purposely vote for the Senator from a diff party. But, you can't complain about gridlock if you're afraid to give the President's party the Congress. Maybe in the past centrists cld ensure things didn't go too far left or too far right by having diff parties control the legislature and executive but things wld still get done bc the parties wld compromise, not anymore. Now the only time anything gets done is when one party controls both. If you don't want gridlock then vote the same way all down the ballot, regardless of what party you're from, if you want gridlock, fine, but don't complain about it.

In regards to the relationship between the presidents and the congress let's not forget that before Obama was sworn in the senate majority leader publicly said his goal in life is to see to it that Obama is a one term president and would not work with him on anything. I can't speak for him but if the Democrats in Congress had no fight against that, then I wouldn't have much use for them either.

Why are you putting the onus on the presidents that have had to work with a Republican majority in the Senate for not being able to work with others? It's not about Biden or anyone else in the presidency, it's about McConnel! He declared that his only goal during Obama's presidency was to stop anything that Obama was trying to accomplish and the only thing that the Senate wanted to do was destroy Obamacare and put in judges. That's it and it's still the same to this day. Working with McConnel. It's up to him.

  30. @paulroese1376

    January 18, 2024 at 9:53 am

Americans love the way the country has been run so don't won't any change in the status quo. when the GOP holds the senate the Biden presidency is dead. he won't get any appointments approved. the Dems shouldn't bother with any policies because the Moscow Mitch and SCOTUS will knock them down. might as well have Trump.

  31. @mmarsh1972

    January 18, 2024 at 9:53 am

And right after this McConnell stated he wouldn't allow ANY Liberal or any other person the GOP dislikes to any cabinet position. Basicially the loser dictating to the winner who he can have in his cabinet.

Is that the bi-partisanship Joe is talking about? Because Mitch has clearly different ideas.

And of course the Dems will bend over and assume the position so that maybe…this time…the GOP might not be mean to them.

    They never learn.
