It’s utterly insane NJ thought Terrie was a better goalie prospect than Kirk Mclean

Maybe the most impressive single game in NHL history, never mind that it's neither the record for goals nor points.

This was the end of December and the announcer said it was Lemieux's seventh shorthanded goal for the season. That's pretty good, huh?

Goal 5 should never have counted, you can clearly see that time had expired via the green light well before the puck entered the net. Thanks Bobby Holik for shedding light on this and ruining my memories…..

This may be single greatest game ever played by a hockey player. With all apologies to Darryl Sittler's 10-point game, which is going to be very hard to beat, I could see an NHL teams scoring 12 goals in a game and one player getting 11 more easily than I could see being both fortunate and skilled enough to do five goals five ways again.

The only possible way to beat it would be somehow if after getting the empty netter, the other team scores two and then the same guy scores the overtime winner. That's way more preposterous than a hockey player getting 11 points in my opinion.

The fifth goal is nowhere near beating the horn. The green light is on at least ten feet before the puck reaches the goal.

I’m a lifelong Flyers fan. When I was 12 years old, I went to my first NHL hockey game. As luck would have it, it was Mario’s first game back from battling cancer, and he had radiation treatment earlier that day in Pittsburgh and was playing in the game later in Philadelphia. As I watched the game, I realized that I was watching the greatest hockey player to ever step on the ice. Mario had the best hands, the most patience, and the best goal scoring instincts I’ve ever witnessed in a player. He was always mentally one or two steps ahead of everyone else on the ice. He made everything look easy.

Do you know how insanely rare this is and hard to accomplish? Do you? First off, short handed goals are tough. Secondly, a penalty shot is very rare. Thirdly, the empty netter means that the other team must be within 1 or 2 goals of you after already scoring at least 4 goals. I don't think this will ever be achieved again.

This is damn near impossible to duplicate. Given the specialization of PP and PK lines, and the paucity of PK attempts, the likelihood of a player scoring an even strength, PP, PK, Penalty Shot and an Empty-netter in 1 game again is almost nil.

    Le Manifique, indeed.

Lemieux played his first 6 seasons without Jagr — really, without much. I would take him as my first pick if I could have any player, healthy, and in their prime, to start an NHL team. Orr second, and Gretzky third.

I love Lemieux, but this isn't genuine. The empty net goal shouldn't have counted; the green light went on way before the puck went in. You can even see the ref waving his hands saying no goal and pointing at the light, but they gave him the goal anyway cause it's Lemieux
