I gave up dancing because of my body. I was too thin. My dance teacher would always comment on how the costumes would never be tight enough on me and i needed to gain weight. She singled me out and made me feel awful. I was healthy, naturally skinny. But it took such a toll on me it developed into full blown anorexia and bullimia. I had this sick desire to become even skinnier, she made that my identity and i was so young only 14 i just wanted to be something. I had given 10 years to that studio and been nothing. She was ex broadway and wanted to build the perfect broadway baby to show off and i wasnt it. I fell into a deep depression after the bullying at school carried over into dance which is where i loved to be. I started to self harm pretty viciously on my arms. I remember her forcing me to take off my sweater that came with my leo because it wasnt part of her dress code, black leo, pink tights, high bun, no sleeves. And that revealed all my cuts, the ones she knew i had. After that i quit dance and went into hospitals for psychiatric treatment. I never returned to the studio. My love of dancing faded and seven years later at 21 i still love to dance. The past 7 years has been on and off treatment and dancing never came back into my life. I wish it would. Medication made me gain alot of weight even after i recovered from my eating disorders. I gained 60 pounds in 4 months. And fell back into old habits. I lost 40 of the pounds and now sit at 120. Up until 18 i was 100 pounds and hatedy body, now heavier i hate it as well.

this show isn’t about being fat , it’s about getting to your ideal body. whether that means gaining or loosing weight from whatever position your at.

I got emotional when she danced in front of her mom. It's just so moving. I'm glad that she's confident enough to dance again and do something she loves.
