   Ode to the Doctors in Gaza

   (which includes Paramedics, Ambulance staff, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, audiologists, voice therapists; spinal rehab specialists, emergency staff and all ancillary staff (security; cleaners; chefs; laundry, maintenance) at Hospitals and Clinics)

   Some Palestinian doctors were born in the Hospital in which you are saving lives today

   Other doctors and medical personnel have come from far and wide to lend a helping hand today (Doctors without Borders and many others)

   You gave an oath during your long years of studying and burning the midnight oil

   That you would do everything in your power to save a life no matter the sweat and toil

   When you finally received your awards degree and graduation ceremony

   You could finally see the sunshine and start a life of healing, therapy and spiritual harmony

   You always believed that with the right tools, money, medicine and equipment, that “anything” was possible to save a life which had no chance

   Little did you realise that the world is a very cruel place, where even a totally healthy baby has no chance even when born in a hospital surrounded by the best Professors, midwives, doctors and nurses.

   This is not a remote part of Africa or the rural jungles of the Amazon where the peri-mortality infant birth rate is very complicated because of lack of ambulances and Hospitals.

   This is in a Main hi-tech Hospital in Gaza, a city of 2,3 Million people, where premature babies are dying because a Hospital does not have electricity, or water or food or medicines or anaesthetics or working equipment or even an incubator to keep the healthy baby warm and alive. Anywhere else in the world, such a baby would have more than a fighting chance for survival. In Gaza, such babies freeze to death and are then covered with a thin piece of cotton fabric (their Shroud of Death) no larger than a loaf of bread. This senseless death of a precious Human Being could have been another Shakespeare, or Mandela, or Martin Luther King, or Mahatma Ghandi or Malcolm X, or Mother Theresa or Marie Curie Carl Sagan or Charles Dickens or Eva Peron. But she was never given that opportunity in life.

   O my dear Doctor. Only you know the pain to see the sick around you, and the difficult decision of triage of the injured, the bleeding, those with head injuries, those with limbs blown off, those who have been removed from the rubble from under a house. You know you have the knowledge and the skills to save thousands of lives: but how do you do that with no suture material, no bandages, no antibiotics, no pins and plates for broken bones, no local anaesthetics to stitch bleeding wounds, no general anaesthetics to perform operations, no electricity, no water to wash your surgical instruments (which will pass on germs to the next patient), no fuel for your standby generator?

   What can you do? Shout at the deaf world leaders?

   Can you not see what is happening?
   
   Can you not see this dying baby? I can save her – please send me medicines

   Can you not see this pregnant mother, she needs blood

   Can you not see this broken bone that is sticking out from the skin, I can fix it if I have an operating theatre that is working

   Can you not see this child's eye, I can probably save this eye but I need 2 hours of fuel in theatre, otherwise this child is blind for life

   Can you not see this mother, she had given birth in the street, and is about to die because her placenta has ruptured: we need to get her into an operating room immediately

   Can you see this lady? She is my colleague. She delivered hundreds of babies: today she lays dead. What was her crime?

   Can you see this man with white hair? He is a Professor of trauma and emergency care; he has saved thousands of lives while working in Gaza for the past 20 years; today he lies dead: he saved so many lives, today, he is surrounded by 20 doctors and 50 nurses and we can do nothing except watch with tears as he lay dead, and then throw a rose into his grave – a simple grave for a majestic human being.

   Is this how Doctors are treated? Is this how Medical personnel are treated?

   There should be a LAW that is Unbreakable that a doctor, nurse, medical worker or hospital or clinic should NEVER be bombed; these are SAFE ZONES for the injured as well as those seeking refuge.

   IF there are allegations of “terrorists” having underground bunkers under hospitals, then the war should stop immediately, and 10,000 UN Peacekeeping forces with Professional Investigators and ground-penetrating Radar should enter the Hospital and search all wards and underground tunnels through an INDEPENDENT and objective Judiciary, not on what an oppressive illegal colonisers are telling the world. If the Hospital is given the “all clear” then all electricity, water, food, fuel and medications should be resumed immediately and it should never be attacked again.

   Please do NOT kill our doctors, nurses, ambulance staff and paramedical staff

   Please do not bomb our Hospitals and Clinics

   Please do not Kill Journalists, aid workers, doctors and innocent men, women, children babies, toddlers, pregnant mothers, the disabled, the deaf, the blind, the infirm and the helpless.

   Please put an end to this ethnic cleansing.

   The war must end TODAY. One more Bomb, is TOO much. One more dead baby, is TOO Much. Ignore the haters and warmongers. Stand strong, O People of the Truth (irrespective of race, religion, ideology or nationality). Make your voices heard for that poor helpless, voiceless baby.

   Look at Forbes news about how Hamas had a 300 meter tunnel to support thier war machine to kill Jews. As long as Hamas continues to fight they are responsible for enery death on both sides of this was. Report the truth not lies.

    Here’s what enrages me. I just watched the footage of Hamas bringing kidnapped victims into Al Shifa . As if those doctors didn’t know Hamas was operating there? It’s literally against the law for them to fail to report that kidnap victims are being held there. Yet they are now pretending to be caring honest doctors. I had sympathy for them until I saw that. They KNEW that kidnapped children were being held there and they did nothing. That is evil.

Al-Shifa has been Hamas headquarters for many years, so they can use the folks there as human shields. It seems like no one in the comments can grasp this fact that the rest of the world is fully aware of.

    I don’t understand; if Shifa is not a Hamas command center, and is super concerned about the well-being of patients, why doesn’t it put up a white flag? Is it more important to get photos of injured/dead civilians and the sort of story this lady is telling? Something very fishy about this.
