As badly as things have gone recently for the Edmonton Oilers, the Chicago Blackhawks came to town and made it much worse.

Mike JohnsonI just salty because he only made the playoffs twice in his entire career

More of the same this season.. Connor gets his 120 or more…. but the team gets beat up 5 on 5 in the playoffs… If Mike Smith cant repeat last year… Oilers are in trouble.

Good luck to the Oilers team!

If only we never got Keith and signed Ryan Murray, signed Ceci for less maybe 2-2.8, sign nurse for 7-8 instead of that gross 9.2

  6. @nodrush80

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

We'll see what they say about Bouchard half way through the season.

  7. @Havre_Chithra

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Mike Smith is worth the money. He is basically a captain with his fire and intensity. He deserves to be there.

The Oilers outplayed the Jets in 3 out of 4 games. 3 of 4 games went to OT. Over the series, they outshot the Jets by an average of 6.6 shots/gm. Most significantly, they ran into an incredibly hot goalie. Hellebucyk had .950 sv % vs the Oilers. Then he didn't against the Habs, and the Jets in turn got swept.

Credit to the Jets though, they did play well and were better at important moments against the Oilers to sweep the series.

    miss new goalie!!!

  10. @mathewpanchyshyn9623

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Foegele, Ryan and Hyman are significant upgrades on Offense. They no longer have offensive depth issues.

Bouchard is the real deal, the D will struggle but be better than expected.

Goaltending was ranked 7th last year and 14th the year before. They are fine just not top end.

Edm is a playoff team and should win a series this year.

  11. @topiheimola69

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

”They’ve improved their forward depth, they should be fine” why does it seem like we hear this every year?

  12. @hipcab

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

They got Duncan Keith and what not…

    Then less is more..
    Hahaha

Hes one of the key keys with this squad.
That and Smith repeating a healthy yr again.

  13. @jonahbeaudoin8863

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

So biased these guys are. Oilers backend is sick top 2 scoring Dmen in the league last year with Duncan Keith & Cody Ceci instead of rookie mistake Caleb Jones & Ethan Bear

  14. @unchainedabomination7228

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Seen tonight's line up the flames have lucic and Ritchie in the line up, oilers no goons looks like we're gonna see some intent to injure. Like come on flames give your younger guys a chance looch and rich already have the 3rd 4th line secured

  15. @Lebby-lc9co

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

I like the Hyman signing a lot and it makes an already scary offense even scarier. But the defense wasn’t amazing last year and they look worse this year, not to mention Smith is 40. McDavid will do wonders in the regular season like he did last year, but I can’t see a deep run but the Oilers in the playoffs.

  16. @thekolt533

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Going no where again, paying way too much money to 3 guyz and can't ice a team around them …..no goalie & no defence = a first rnd playoff exit if they even make the playoffs that is!!!

  17. @KneeJerkReactions13

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Can count on hockey media to bash the Oilers no matter what.

  18. @user-ko7cq6sp5f

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

T.O. media Edmonton 7 best save percentage last year. I guess kilar , pool party,McLeod, Bouchard, they just not gonna be hockey players. No hope ever for Edmonton.yet. maple laughs haven't got to 2round way longer then Edmonton. It took Washington like 5 times out in first round, before winning.

  19. @snakeeyes9246

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Since Game 3 against the Ducks in 2017, the Oilers have lost 11 of their last 13 playoff games with no series wins. They have to step it up this year.

  20. @kevinhurley4815

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

I have this feeling Klefbom plays at some point this season

  21. @MrPetzold123

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

They need big steps from their young players: Pulju, Yamo, Bouch, Broberg (maybe)…they need Keith and Smith to play on a high good level…they need Kassian to play better…they need the energy from Foegele…they need 4th line youngsters to raise their level…the possibility is there, but still a long shot. Playoffs in Pacific ? should be.

  22. @Lanearndt

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

so if you guys are playing the whiny antagonists that's fine but make it known in the headline!
how about leading with "we hate the Oilers no matter what"? lame.

  23. @Lanearndt

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

it's a great team this year! despite what these guys are focusing on!
"like Bouchard who's trying to take a step forward, i guess?" what childish reportage!!

  24. @patward8542

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Duncan Keith will lead the Oilers to the Cup. Haha just kidding.

  25. @TETRARCHJeffUnstableFreak

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Hopefully the oliers can improve this season

  26. @waleah4855

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

The top players are only getting better and now they got help. These guys are fools.

  27. @mctoads8230

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

    These guys suck

  28. @matthewshairline4651

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

These so called “experts” predicted leafs sweeping the habs

  29. @RaduOsraldescu

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

    Lets go Oilers

  30. @darrenmoran3539

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

how is that oilers can play to full att with covid cases high yet. mtl tor ott cant

  31. @zigfield723

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Mike Johnson sucks. He's a leafs fanboy homer

  32. @TheArcher143

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

The team still has a lot of holes, but I like some of their off-season moves.
They should be able to easily make the playoffs.
Going far in the playoffs is a whole other issue though.

  33. @cameronsullivan7119

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

McDavid could actually get more than 150 points this year with this division being so bad and him getting to face them the most.

  34. @cameronsullivan7119

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Probably finish second in the division and then lose in the first round, they're going to continue to do this and be the new Toronto Maple Leafs.

  35. @ishanmoosa7137

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

    W

  36. @BillyJoeMcallister

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Rosen looking good and fit but not the Oilers! The North division was an aberration, the Pacific considered weak will be tougher with a full schedule of travel and teams than last season. Vegas takes number one, while the Oilers, Kraken, Flames and Canucks battle for second to fourth.

  37. @Oilerfan5

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Best forward core in years, D downgraded losing Bear, tendy's stay the same. What place they end up is wholly dependent on who's between the pipes but course Goalies are pure voodoo. But 2nd in the div is the most likely spot being that Vegas is the only obviously better team.

  38. @visariosorino8034

    February 1, 2024 at 7:54 am

Edmonton Oilers will miss, the playoffs. 🤔🇨🇦
