http://www.FashionTV.com/videos PARIS – Rumors abound that 27-year old Leonard designer Maxime Simoens has been in negotiations to become head designer at Dior. Women’s Wear Daily reported that Simoens is expected to leave the Leonard label. Then when Women’s Wear Daily asked Leonard’s Managing Director to confirm the report, she appeared flustered. Simoens himself also declined to comment but said he was in negotiations with Dior. We’ve seen Simoens do haute couture and do it well, so we know he is capable of heading to the ultra-French Dior label. But what of his work at Leonard? Is this his first and last show? And is he going out with a bang? Ironically, Simoens debuted at Leonard this season and he has definitely changed the look. Leonard is known for color prints, and here there were hardly any color, at least in the traditional Leonard sense. He did use the brand’s signature Coptic pattern, but it was found in black gowns. Cocktail dresses were short and tight, instead of flowy and silky. Simoens may be a great designer, but he did not do the label’s trademark, which may be the reason for his cut ties with the label. While yes, he did go out with a bang, it wasn’t the kind of bang that Leonard probably wanted. It was a notable effort, nonetheless.

Makeup is thick and black, running along the eyebrows. “They were looking for something modern in terms of a shape,” says Terry, the makeup artist on hand for the show. He adds texture to the brow because so much has been done with the lip and the eye, that he wanted to add shape to something new. Plus, he says, the collection is very architectural. “They like something that is very playful with shape,” he says. They add a metallic gold eyeshadow and deep pink blush. Hair is in tight mini braids at the back of the head. Model Iekeliene Stange says hello to FashionTV. She has walked in a Sass & Bide show in the past, when they were showing in New York.
