As world leaders prepare to gather in New York for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this week, a growing number of flashpoints across the Middle East are raising concerns about a wider regional escalation, from renewed fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen to fresh warnings exchanged between Washington and Tehran.

A dramatic Houthi offensive in Yemen has emerged as one of the most significant developments heading into UNGA.

CNN national security analyst Alex Plitsas explains why he thinks the Trump administration may be nervous about joining Saudi Arabia’s military effort against the Houthis. Also, former US national security council official Kristen Fontenrose reacts to Trump changing course on the US military getting more involved in the region.
