Trump Makes New Demands on Iran, Oil Edges Higher | Horizons Middle East & Africa 8/11/2026

Published

on

President Trump has made sweeping new demands on Iran, including compensation for people he says Iran “killed and gravely wounded,” while hardened positions on both sides are dimming hopes for a deal to restore shipping through the vital waterway.
Oil has returned as a major driver of inflation concerns, with investors watching the impact on central banks. Bonds fell on renewed inflation worries, while Federal Reserve official Beth Hammack said “some number” of rate hikes may be needed. Australia’s central bank leaves rate unchanged at 4.35% while maintaining a hawkish stance.
Currency markets remain focused on the yen after its earlier intervention gains faded, raising questions over how effective further intervention could be. Japan’s growth strategy minister also discussed spending plans, fiscal policy and the potential long-term impact on the yen.
In technology, Nvidia is working with six firms to mobilize more than $500 billion for AI computing infrastructure, while Intel plans to sell $15 billion in stock as demand for AI-related technology grows. Mark Zuckerberg published a 6,500-word AI manifesto, and RIOT signed a major $49.1 billion deal involving Anthropic.
Elsewhere, Gautam Adani won dismissal of US securities fraud charges, China imposed 54% tariffs on US pecans, gold climbed above $4,400 ahead of US inflation data, Tencent prepares to report earnings, and Unitree’s IPO retail tranche was subscribed more than 5,500 times.
We also cover Action Energy’s record $1.1 billion order backlog, Spinneys’ second-quarter results and the impact of regional tensions and higher freight costs on consumer demand. Guests includes Anita Krishna Gupta, Wealthbrix Capital Partners CIO,  Minoru Kiuchi, Japan Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy, Rawaf Bourisli, Action Energy Company Vice Chairman and Sunil Kumar, Spinneys CEO.
