What Happened To BlackBerry?

Published

on

For years, BlackBerry was the most popular smartphone brand in the U.S. After failing to adjust to the rapidly-changing industry and falling to competitors like Apple and Google, the company pivoted to an entirely new direction. Now, it’s focused solely on software and cybersecurity — trying to leave the iconic cellphones in the past. CNBC visited BlackBerry’s Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Center and interviewed CEO John Chen to see what the company is up to now.

How Americans Waste Their Money On Premium Gas

Published

on

By

Gas prices have been relatively low compared with the airy peaks they had seen roughly a decade ago; Americans are paying more for premium gasoline than standard gasoline than they have in the past. According to AAA, Americans collectively waste $2 billion a year buying premium gasoline. The critical difference between premium gas from regular is its octane rating—understanding that octane rating and what cars need what gasoline is key to knowing whether it is worth paying for premium.

Facebook Unveils Portal Smart Speakers

Published

on

By

Facebook on Monday unveiled the Portal and Portal+, directly challenging Amazon, Google and Apple in the fast-growing smart-speaker market with a unique approach that will emphasize video calling. To start a video call, users can say “Hey Portal, call …” followed by the name of a connection on Facebook’s Messenger service.

These calls include entertaining augmented-reality features that can outfit users with cat hats or turn their living rooms into animated night clubs.

Another feature is Smart Camera, which uses artificial intelligence and the devices’ cameras to perfectly frame users on video as they move around while on a call.

“Portal+ and Portal really live up to that idea of helping you feel closer and allowing you to spend more quality time with people, even if they live thousands of miles away from you,” said Dave Kaufman, marketing lead for Facebook’s Portal division.
