Oil Fluctuates Despite Steady Hormuz Flows | Horizons Middle East & Africa 7/6/2026

Published

on

Today’s global markets update covers the biggest developments in geopolitics, energy, finance, and technology. President Trump heads to Turkey for the NATO summit and a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while US stock futures surrender much of their earlier gains as technology shares remain volatile. Asian tech stocks also lose momentum after an early rebound, and Goldman Sachs revises its yen forecast to 165 from 155.
In energy markets, oil prices fluctuate as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues, OPEC+ raises production quotas, oil and gas cargoes increasingly use the Oman-side shipping route. We also cover Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest remarks on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the IDF’s readiness for possible operations in Lebanon, mass funerals in Iran following the death of a senior leader, and the absence of Mojtaba Khamenei from public view.
Elsewhere, South African businesses continue accelerating renewable energy investments, with solar accounting for 68% of private electricity generation. We also examine growing attention on Middle East credit markets, reports that Abu Dhabi’s wealth fund may take TAQA private, ADNOC’s review of Wall Street advisory roles, the UAE’s successful efforts to block cyberattacks targeting its financial sector, and Gulf airlines exploring new aircraft orders from Boeing and Airbus. Guests includes Gareth Nicholson, FAB Asset Management CIO; and Zeina Rizk, Amwal Capital Partners Fixed Income Co-Head

End of Oligarch Era Nears

Published

on

Roman Abramovich is selling Chelsea Football Club after almost two decades of ownership. The billionaire’s ties to Russia are being scrutinized. He is seeking 3 billion-pounds from the sale of the football club and has said that net proceeds will go to a foundation for Ukraine war victims. The billionaire hasn’t been personally sanctioned by the U.K., but it highlights the global scramble by oligarchs to keep assets from being frozen and seized by international governments after sanctions were announced. Bloomberg’s Tom Metcalf reports on “Bloomberg Markets: Europe.”
