Zelenskyy Says Open to Energy Ceasefire if Russia Agrees

Published

on

“Balance of Power” focuses on the intersection of politics and global business. On today’s show, Aaron David Miller, Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, says that the US joining Saudi Arabia in military attacks on the Houthis could deepen what he calls a “mini forever war” without producing a clear end state. Ellen Wald, president of Transversal Consulting and nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, says she sees no recent move by the president that could materially bring down oil prices. Republican Congressman Tim Moore of North Carolina said he believes Democrats are unlikely to win a House majority, but criticized their stated priorities if they do, arguing that investigations and efforts to impede opponents should not dominate Congress.

Europe ‘Not Well Prepared for Winter’ on Energy, Goldman’s Della Vigna Says

Published

on

European natural gas prices rose following a report the White House asked the Pentagon to develop strike options against Iran that could be executed before the midterm elections next month.

Michele Della Vigna, Head of Natural Resources Research in EMEA at Goldman Sachs, says Europe is not well prepared for winter in the energy market with risks skewed to the upside.

“In Europe, natural gas drives 60% of the price of power for 60% of the time. And in some countries, the UK, Italy, Germany, for 80% plus of the time. So all of this ultimately feeds through industrial competitiveness and the consumer’s disposable income,” he said.

Della Vigna discusses the energy market impacts and risks from conflicts in the Middle East on “The Pulse with Francine Lacqua.”
