Courts, but also the ‘power of the people’ will counter Trump’s fascism

Published

on

With the Trump administration signaling it may defy lower court orders, it will ultimately fall to the Supreme Court to rein in his actions, says Janai Nelson, President of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Nelson spoke to host Charles Coleman from Selma, Alabama, where Americans from across the country are paying tribute to the protesters of the 1965 Bloody Sunday march — a defining moment in the Civil Rights Movement. In light of the Trump administration’s attacks on multiracial democracy, Bloody Sunday holds special significance today, says Nelson. “We are here today at a moment when our democracy is in crisis, “ she says. “But what we do every year when we come, is to get renewed strength, we refuel. This is not just a reenactment of a march – it’s a drill.”
