Ulyana Sergeenko invites us to stepped back a century to enjoy her recent spring/summer collection which was inspired by the Russian silent-movie star Vera Kholodnaya. Sharp-shouldered crêpe jackets and pencil skirts, floaty chiffon dresses and bejeweled cardigans – sweetheart and deep-V necklines and lace bodices with a boudoir feel, diamond and elongated hexagon shapes punctuated the silhouettes feature this collection.

Ulyana Viktorovna Sergeenko is a Russian fashion designer. Being always interested in fashion, Sergeenko put her interest to a next level when she decided to collect it, since then building an eclectic collection of antique and vintage clothes and accessories ranging from the rare ancient jewelry to Soviet school uniform. Hunting for the new rarities she frequently visits flea-markets and vintage boutiques as well as bids on a major fashion auctions.

We call Paris one of the four fashion capitals, together with Milan, New York and London, but truly Paris is nothing less but the only fashion capital of the world. We aren’t stating that just out of pure love for the City of Lights but merely as a fact. This magnificent city is the cradle of fashion.

Humberto Leon and Carol Lim delivered spring with a special memo: “Kenzo would like to remind you that there is no Planet B. Protect what’s precious.”

Perhaps it was meant in more abstract terms. In the show notes, Leon and Lim described the collection with words like “Energy,” “Lightness,” “Purity,” “Air” and “Clean.” They zeroed in on these notions with success, showing a polished collection that added something new to the Kenzo vernacular the designers have been establishing — less “jungle print,” more refined silhouette.

During the pre-show wait, the message was uttered repeatedly, in several languages, by a female avatar on large digital screens.
