‘Please continue peacefully protesting’: Sen. Padilla after forced removal from DHS presser

Published

on

“Come this Saturday, I encourage everybody to please peacefully protest, just like I was calmly and peacefully listening in that press conference and preparing attempting to ask a question,” he said. “No violence, no vandalism.”

Sen. Alex Padilla, speaking shortly after he was removed from a Homeland Security news conference in Los Angeles, said he was handcuffed by law enforcement officers, but not arrested or detained. He also encouraged protesters to keep Saturday’s upcoming rallies peaceful.

In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security said law enforcement “acted appropriately.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom speaks exclusively with MS NOW’s Jacob Soboroff ahead of the first anniversary of the historic Los Angeles Fires. In this wide-ranging interview, Newsom outlines how fires of similar magnitude are inevitable. They also discussed Trump’s latest decision to pull national guard troops from Chicago, LA, and Portland along with the president’s vow to return, “perhaps in a much different and stronger form.” The governor also reflected on the impact of Trump’s immigration policy on those trying to rebuild the city. Soboroff also pressed the governor on his 2028 presidential aspirations, whether he’ll endorse in this year’s gubernatorial race in California, how involved he’ll be in campaigning for other Democrats ahead of the midterms, and the Trump administration’s decision to freeze federal childcare funding.
