With no end in sight to the government shutdown, Donald Trump and OMB Director Russell Vought are threatening to fire civil servants en masse and freeze federal funds. They claim Democrats are forcing their hands – but this is exactly what the Trump administration has been doing all along, as laid out in the Project 2025 playbook. “There’s going to be a political consequence to this that the Republicans will have to eat,” and Democrats should want to teach the Republican base a “painful lesson,” former GOP strategist Rick Wilson tells Ali Velshi.

‘Nakedly political’: DOJ indicts Southern Poverty Law Center

The DOJ on Tuesday announced an 11-count indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center, alleging federal violations of wire fraud, bank fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel appeared a news conference to announce the charges, which they said that a grand jury in Alabama had voted to approve.
